FORGET THE FAKE ROCK The Actual Best Places to Stash Your Spare Key

Where do you hide your spare key in case you get locked out? Under your doormat? In a flower pot? In a fake rock near your door? If you said any of these places, you might want to reconsider your hiding spot. While they may have been reliable hiding places at one time, so many burglars now know to search those spots that you might as well leave your spare in the lock. To stay one step ahead of would-be burglars, here are a few more creative locations for your spare key. IN A FAKE SPRINKLER HEAD A fake rock is obvious, but fewer unwanted intruders might think to check a fake sprinkler head in your lawn. This option is cheap and inconspicuous as long as you actually have sprinklers. If you don’t have sprinklers, obviously getting a fake sprinkler head for your spare key is a bad idea. NAILED TO A TREE This one sounds weird, but the logic behind it is sound — if you live on a property with a lot of trees. Most intruders wouldn’t think to check every tree in your yard to find a key. Just make sure to attach it where it won’t catch an obvious reflection from the sun and draw wandering eyes.

Few could probably claim to have as much administrative experience as Dodie Wilburn. Before she became the office manager at the Lexington Pop-A-Lock office, she worked in administration for insurance agencies, dentists, and everything in between. She is an indispensable part of the Lexington office, and Pop-A-Lock would be at a loss without her. Dodie loves spending time with her husband, daughters, and 2-year- old grandson, Archer, when she’s not at the office. She is passionate about animals, especially dogs, and considers herself an entrepreneur at heart. She has her own pet-sitting business and a big German Shepherd named Hanz. Hanz is in the office once a week, so there’s a chance you may have met him!

And — speaking of furry friends — it can get increasingly dangerous as summer temperatures rise to leave your dog in a parked car.
