Alleyn Club Yearbook 2018

HENRY FRASER What has Henry Fraser (08-11) not done this year? It has been a phenomenally busy year for public speaker, mouth artist and now author Henry. Guardian and The Times followed. Sue Mullholland, Director of Art and DT at the College said “It is phenomenal

If you don’t already know Henry’s story, he was a 17-year old sports enthusiast and senior prefect when he broke his spinal cord in an accident and was left paralysed from the shoulders down. His incredible strength and perseverance has seen him go on to become a brilliant public speaker, and create extraordinary artwork. Then came the book! With a foreword by JK Rowling, Henry’s inspiring new work The Little Big Things launched at a reception in September in London. The book quickly became a Sunday Times Bestseller, comprises Henry’s views on “what really matters in life”, combining his wisdom and insight into accepting life’s challenges with positivity and hope. It is a story that will resonate with anyone facing an obstacle, no matter how big or small. The success of the book culminated in an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show and articles in The

what Henry has achieved. When Fiona Angel (Deputy Master Pastoral) first introduced me to Henry with the idea of doing an exhibition of his works at the College I was immediately humbled and inspired by his positivity and passion for art. To have come this far with both his art and writing in such a short space of time is testament to Henry’s inner drive and endurance. He is truly an inspiration to our young people.”

This image was hugely successful at his first public exhibition held at The Grove July 2016. It was limited to 40 editions, and completely sold out over the two day exhibition. Henry has recently painted a King of the Jungle II, on a black background. Henry has been named number seven in the Power 100 List of the most successful people with a disability or impairment in sport, business, politics and entertainment. We are sure we will see much more of Henry in 2018. Follow Henry and his continuing success story on twitter @ henryfraser0 or Facebook @ HenryFraserMouthArtist

Henry designed a Christmas 2017 Jumper and T-shirt, with all proceeds from the sales going to the charity Shelter. They help millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness. We are delighted that Henry has allowed us to use one of his early black and white paintings King of the Jungle for the cover of this edition of the Alleyn Club Yearbook. Henry says of King of the Jungle “I wanted to combine my black

and white painting style with a picture of an animal. I chose a lion because of its distinctive mane and tremendous power, which I have tried to portray.”
