times a year and are followed by a formal dinner. Every year we invite non-masonic guests to a ‘White Table’ dinner in the Salle. We were delighted that the Master recently came to this event as our guest of honour, along with representatives of the Common Room and the Alleyn Club. Every summer we hold a Lodge Garden Party & BBQ. Charity is an important part of Freemasonry and the Old Alleynian Lodge regularly gives to worthy causes, including donations to school-related charities. The Lodge is in good form and welcomes enquiries from young and old (and those somewhere in between). The first Grand Lodge of England was founded in London in 1717, so Freemasonry has been celebrating its Tercentenary in 2017 with a number of big events, including an impressive production at the Royal Albert Hall and a large float in the Lord Mayor’s Show. Our current Grand Master is HRH The Duke of Kent. Over time, approximately 10,000 Lodges have been registered under the United Grand Lodge of England, and our number in the official register, allocated according to a lodge’s foundation date, is No. 4165. masonic lodge for their old boys, and Dulwich is no exception. Our Lodge was founded in 1920, one of the earliest members being Sir Ernest Shackleton (1887-1890). We currently have about 45 members, with an incredible age range from the mid-20s to early 90s. OAs and members of the College teaching staff are eligible to join, and we welcome visitors from other lodges. The photograph shows Lodge members in full regalia after our recent meeting in the Old Library, with Ditch Boultbee as our Worshipful Master.
