I would like to appeal to all OAs who are golfers to contact me, wherever you live and whatever your handicap. We were all privileged to go to a fine sporting school and when our cricketing and rugby days are over we turn to golf. As the GS we continue to play with our contemporaries and against old rivals in the best sporting and competitive matches. The Hollington Club Patrick Darby (61 – 71) Honorary Secretary “The Hollington Youth Centre aims to build positive relationships in a safe environment; to encourage learning and development through activities and experiences” Having been acting Chairman since the resignation of Chris Vernon in 2016, I took the role over officially at the 2016 A.G.M., and have continued as Secretary of the club management Committee. Sarah Jane Elvin has continued as the Club Leader, with valuable assistance from Nicola Smikle, Karl Brown and several sessional workers and volunteers, as well as from Clive Dixon our boxing coach. Our thanks to the DCM Hollington Trust for its substantial financial support, and to Southwark Council for its most welcome grant. We are also grateful to the staff and boys at Dulwich College, who have contributed their time in assisting our Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme entrants.

The Hollington Youth Centre has been serving the young people of Camberwell for over 120 years. It operates in the heart of a large council estate in one of the more deprived areas of Southwark Borough. However, numbers have declined of late and the age of the members is rather lower than in previous years. The proposal to redevelop the site, which is being actively pursued, has therefore come at an opportune time and the Club Committee have been working on plans for the new building and considering arrangements to revitalise the club when it reopens. Sadly, however, we are having to release Sarah Jane and her staff – Sarah Jane to study for a professional qualification. We owe them all our gratitude for keeping the club afloat during a difficult time and we wish them well for the future. At our AGM at the end of November 2017, I stood down as Chairman and proposed as my successor the Rev. Jonathan Roberts, Vicar of St Michael & All Angels (the parish in which the Club lies), whose appointment was endorsed unanimously by the Board. Jonathan, I am sure, is well-equipped to take the Club successfully through the challenges it faces over the next few years. The Hollington Youth Centre (HYC) has been operating since 1893 and is currently open five nights a week, for young people aged between 8 and 19. As part of a planned regeneration of the Comber Grove site, the Hollington Club will be closing its doors for Youth Sessions this Summer on 19th July, and (subject to planning permission) will re- open in mid-2019.

won the Dick Sellick Salver to go with the Scratch Cup he won at the Spring Meeting.

Our full fixture list for 2018 can be seen on the College website. You will see we have several good matches and events on the best courses in the South East. All OAs are welcome to play at any event, except a few competitions that are restricted to lower handicaps. We are making preparations for the College’s 400th anniversary celebrations in 2019 and have already reserved the East India Club for our annual dinner on 14 March 2019, to be chaired by our captain Nigel Farage (74-82), another former player in our Halford Hewitt team. On 26 June 2019, there will be a special golf day at Dulwich and Sydenham with dinner afterwards at the College. We have also entered the 21st Century and have our own Facebook page, our own App as well as our web page on the Dulwich College site www.dulwich.org.uk/old-alleynians/ clubs/-golfing-society
