spoke in later years of a good friend Dieter who lived in what was then West Germany. Mike’s father worked for the Bank of England and after leaving school, Mike joined the Bank too, but he soon found banking too dry for him and so he left and went into sales with food manufacturer, Nestle, whose UK base was in Croydon. Further sales jobs in the consumer goods industry followed including with Reckitt and Colman and with Henry Wintermans, before he eventually joined a company in Streatham who manufactured snooker tables. Mike both sold snooker tables and set them up for tournaments in an increasingly popular game in this country, also playing snooker himself at the local Temperance Hall in West Norwood. He was also keen on cricket, was a long-time member of Surrey County Cricket Club and spent a lot of time watching them playing at the Kennington Oval. He also used to attend annual reunions of the 1959 Modern 6th but with the death of Mike Thomas in the late 1990s, these started to occur infrequently before ceasing altogether as the former classmates all got older. Mike married Hilary in 1972 and they initially lived near Godstone but subsequently moved to a more modern house in Epsom, where he continued to live right up until his death. He and Hilary produced two children, Tim and Lucy. Tim attended the City of London Freemans School in Ashtead and was a good amateur cricketer,

Allan retired early because he started to develop dementia. He remained at home with Pauline as his main carer as the dementia worsened until 2013, when he moved into a dementia care home. His interest in gymnastics which began at Dulwich persisted throughout his life, and he was always practising handstands, even occasionally after he had moved into the care home.

son of a company director and the family lived in Norbury. He came to Dulwich from

Lexden House School in Streatham, was in Marlowe, and at the College he excelled in gymnastics. After leaving Dulwich, he went to join J Sawyers and Co in Cannon Street in the City to train as an accountant, qualifying as a chartered accountant and remaining with the firm until 1964, when he moved to Price Waterhouse (PW). At PW he was an auditor, visiting clients throughout the UK, and so he travelled and was away from home frequently. In 1969, Allan left PW and the accountancy profession and moved into commerce working for Costain International, where he was involved in civil engineering projects all over the world, but particularly in the Middle East. This involved a lot of international travel, so in 1990 he moved to work entirely in the UK for a housing association, retiring early in 2000. Allan met Pauline in 1960 and they were married in 1962. They produced two sons in the 1960s before the family moved to Coulsdon, where a daughter, Philippa, arrived in 1973. Allan loved gardening when he was not travelling with Costain, as well as playing golf and table tennis. Pauline and Philippa spent a few weeks on holiday in Kandy, Sri Lanka, while Allan was working on a project there and the older boys were boarders at Caterham School. Sadly Philippa died in a jet-ski accident in Turkey with her boyfriend while they were both students.

Allan is survived by Pauline, both sons and by six grandchildren.

Pauline contributed significantly to this obituray.

Michael Harry Barnett [1953-59] 28.02.1942 – 23.07.2016 Michael Barnett was the younger of two brothers and, after a short period in Hampshire, he grew up in Streatham. He came to Dulwich from Christchurch Junior Middle School in Streatham Hill with a free place under the Dulwich Experiment. At the College he was in Drake, and like most boys he either cycled or caught the bus to and from school. His mother also had connections with the College, working part- time as one of the support staff in Ivyholme boarding house in the 1950s. Mike eventually chose to specialise in modern languages and was in the Modern 6th at the same time as Peter Gillman and Mike Thomas. He was taught French and German by John McKinley OA and Eddie Morris amongst others. Exchange visits to Europe were encouraged and arranged by the school; Mike visited Germany and
