order to transport the water to the different households. The overall cost of the project is esti- mated at $65 million, paid by both the two townships as well as Cornwall. The piping would connect from Cornwall’s Boundary water tank all the way to Maxville, crossing the 401. Infrastructure manager Stephen Wintle stressed that his department is estimating a $400,000 profit for the initial year, with higher amounts in the following years. The project is to last 30 years, with sub- sequent renewal terms every 20 years. Mr. Wintle also explained to council that several strict penalties were to be put in place re- garding over usage of water resources by the Townships. The report states that a 500 per cent daily penalty would be introduced by the city for any water usage exceeding maximum day limits as well as a 125 per cent penalty for water usage exceeding the maximum annual amount.

CORNWALL | TD Bank Group has donated $50,000 to the St. Lawrence College Dif- ference We Make Campaign in Cornwall. Their gift is directed towards student aid, specifically the establishment of a new TD Bank Group Bursary in Environmental Sci- ences. Over the next 5 years, 50 Environmental Technician program awards valued at $1,000 each will be presented to deserving students to help offset the tuition cost associated with this unique program at St. Lawrence College. The first three bursaries were award- ed recently to first-year entrance students Mesha Boyer, Kaitlyn Brownlee and Andrew Couturier. The bursary will be renewed at the end of the first year, provided the student continues in the Environmental Technician program and maintains an above average academic standing. “TD understands and supports the importance of investing in post-secondary edu- cation as a means to building our communities. As such, we also understand the im- portance of innovative environmental studies, research and teaching programs. This includes finding ways to remove the financial barriers that students often face when considering post-secondary studies or continuing education,” stated Michelle Huntley, Branch Manager of TD Canada Trust in Cornwall. “St. Lawrence College is pleased that TD Bank Group is supporting our students not only in the present, but for years to come,” said Glenn Vollebregt, President and CEO of St. Lawrence College. “The Environmental Technician program that we offer at the Cornwall campus is vitally important as it speaks to the future of our environment. The students will continue to receive support in their second year, which shows not only TD Bank Group’s dedication to the program but to the students that want to pursue a career in environmental studies.” Representatives of TD Bank Group were at the St. Lawrence River Institute of Envi- ronmental Sciences on Wednesday, February 5 to meet two of the recipients, Andrew Couturier and Mesha Boyer, and get a first-hand account of the importance of this new bursary, their experience in this innovative program and their dreams for the future. Students in the Environmental Technician program benefit from the College’s partner¬ship with the River Institute. A report, presented to council last month, outlined the townships’ lack of suitable drinking water. “There is a problem with the adequacy of drinking water in parts of North Glengarry, particularly Alexandria and Maxville,” stated the report. “North Glengarry has spent significant time and resources looking at options to provide a reliable, efficient supply; however, no ad- equate source with the municipality was identified.” Several councilors had questions regard- ing the cost of the infrastructure needed in
