Nikada nisam želela da igram žene koje je lako razumeti

– Personal experience. When I started to be con- fronted by the symptoms of menopause, I realised how little I know about that and how rarely it’s dis- cussed. It was incredible to me that there’s so much discomfort and silence around something that so many women go through. I didn’t want other wom- en to feel alone or insufficiently informed. If we can openly discuss other life stages, there’s no reason to make this one taboo. Hollywood has long told women that they lose value with age. Have you managed to free yourself of that pressure? – I think the most important thing is to stop ac- cepting someone else’s definition of what you should be. It is a long-held belief in our industry that wom- en’s careers have an expiry date. But honesty brought me a sense of liberation. I no longer wanted to hide something that’s a natural part of life. And new, in- teresting roles began to arrive at the same time. That just confirmed to me that life doesn’t have to unfold according to rules imposed on us by others. In the series All’s Fair, you play a woman who chooses independence over the security of a familiar system. To what extent are such decisions close to your heart? – I’m very interested in the notion that wom- en don’t have to choose between success and mutual support. In this story, the women are ambitious, ca- pable, sometimes stubborn and imperfect, but they understand the importance of supporting one anoth- er. I like that they don’t try to conform to the world that others have made for them, but rather decide to build their own. I think there’s a lot of freedom in that. You are surrounded by women from different generations and professional worlds. What about other women inspires you the most today? – The courage to try something new. I especially appreciate that in people who have already achieved great success and still don’t stop researching. I was surrounded on set by extraordinary women – from Glenn Close and Sarah Paulson to Kim Kardashian. Each of them brought a different experience. I love it when people don’t allow that which they are known for to limit them in what they can become. If you had to define the life you really want today, what would come first? – Balance between everything I love. I want to con- tinue to work, to be creative, to learn and to be excit- ed by new things. But I also want to enjoy my family, friendships and ordinary moments that often go un- noticed while we’re chasing big things. I think age can bring you exactly that kind of freedom.
