UKRATKO / IN BRIEF

Smeštena ispod masivnog staklenog svoda „Gran Palea“, postavka zahteva vre- me i koncentraciju.

Paris

Cézanne and Grand Palais

W hen Pablo Picasso de- clared Paul Cézanne (1839–1906) “the father of us all”, he accurately defined this French painter’s place in art history. Cézanne not only closed the chapter of 19 th century impressionism, but also dis- mantled the classical rules of perspective. His radical approach to composition and his treatment of colour created the visual vocabulary that laid the foundations on which the entire art of the 20 th century was built. This influence is the focus of the monumental exhibition Cezanne et nous, which runs at the fully renovated Grand Palais in Paris until 17 th January 2027. The exhibition’s curatorial concept avoids chronological predictability. Instead, the

exhibition sets Cézanne’s key canvases – such as his famous series of paintings of Mount Sainte-Victoire and iconic compo- sitions with bathers – in direct dialogue with the works of the modern artists he influenced directly. Presented under the massive vault- ed glass ceiling of the Grand Palais, this exhibition demands time and concentra- tion. Apart from his landmark paintings, visitors also have the opportunity to ana- lyse his sketches and watercolours, which reveal the very process of deconstructing motifs. Cezanne and Us is a serious aca- demic and visual study that requires the viewer change the way they perceive space, light and structure within the frame. This is the European event of the season for any serious art lover.
