and foremost on somebody who could manage. That would allow me to concentrate on working on the business as opposed to working in it. That has worked and Rakesh’s knowledge is growing every day. Additionally, the shop front needed a spring clean when I first came in the door. The wall needed a fresh coat of paint. Every shelf was crammed, there was not enough space. One of the first things I did was clear the shop, clean up, rearrange the shelves and restock in logical sections – consumables, jet wash, diesel etc.

The response I got from customers was incredible. Guys that had been coming in here for years walked in and they just ‘Success in business is all about building relationships’ stopped in their tracks. They would say, “Is this a new wall?” Then I would reply, “No, I’ve just moved things around.”

There’s certainly science behind keeping a shopfront.

It’s taken a long time but we’ve made good progress. Barriers come less frequently now, they are lower and they’re easier to get over. We’re getting there.
