RACQUETBALL COURTS

• First come first served reservations in one-hour increments • A $5 paid fee guarantees a court reservation up to 3 days in advance • Reservations are forfeited after 10 minutes if no show • Children between 7-15 years of age may use the court when accompanied by any person 16 years or older • Raquets, raquetballs, and protective eye wear are available for rental at the front desk • $10 court rental punch cards are now available for $35 each

MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION Become a member and join the excitement! Use of the Rowlett Community Centre is available for Rowlett Residents and Non-Residents. Rowlett Residents may receive the resident membership rate by presenting two forms of identification establishing Rowlett residency. An annual membership is valid for one year from date of purchase. Monthly memberships are valid for 30 days from date of purchase. Please present your membership card at the front desk each time you visit the facility. A $5 daily drop-in fee will be assessed when the membership card is not presented. Replacement cards may be purchased for $5. Guests 17 years and younger must have a release form signed by a parent or legal guardian before being issued a membership card or day pass. Children ages 6 and under must always be supervised by a guardian over the age of 16 years. RESERVATIONS FACILITY

• Reservations must be made in person at the Rowlett Community Centre located at 5300 Main Street • Reservations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and can be made up to nine months in advance of the date of your event • Rooms may be reserved both during and after normal business hours any day of the week • A refundable deposit is REQUIRED to secure your room rental. The balance is due no later than two weeks prior to your rental • Reservation cancellations or changes will only be accepted directly from the lessee • Refundable deposit fees are not applied towards your rental fees • Reservations that include alcohol must pay for license and an off-duty Rowlett officer to be present during reservation

(4-hour minimum fee to be paid to the Officer on Duty and license fee) • Lessees need to include set up and clean up time within reservation

‘Lunch on the Lawn’, is a great way to spice up your Monday! Every Monday, we will have a variety of food trucks downtown! Make sure you’re following us on social media to find out which food trucks will be on site for a specific date. We hope this allows people to spend time in the community while eating outdoors.

Join us for a family outdoor campout at Pecan Gove Park! Families will be able to set up their tents under the stars, enjoy the outdoors, and other camping activities during the day. A meal will be provided, and we will have S’mores for dessert! Camping set up will begin at sundown. We hope you come to appreciate the outdoors and learn about how you can camp in our state and national parks.

SPRING SAND BASS TOURNAMENT Saturday, Mar 18 7am-2pm Preregistration: $20; Onsite registration: $30 Every year hundreds of people come to Rowlett to take part in the annual spawning run of White Bass into Rowlett and Muddy Creeks. You see them parked at the Miller Street Bridge, at the Rowlett Creek Nature Preserve on Liberty Grove and around Centerville and Rowlett Road. Join us as we hold our first ever Sand Bass Tournament, hosted by Victory Fishing Events. Check in and Registation will be in Downtown Rowlett for all participants. Prizes will be awarded to winners with random drawings following the event. Don’t miss out on one of the more popular early fishing opportunities in Rowlett. Challenge your innovative-thinking skills during our annual Cardboard Boat Regatta right after Kid Fish! Participants will create their own carboard boat prior to the event using cardboard and other various supplies. After creating their boat, teams will race across Community Park pond. We challenge you to be as creative and unconventional as possible! All teams are required to supply their own life vests for all participants during the race. Attention all aspiring and experienced fishermen! Test your skills against members of the community at our annual fishing event, Kid Fish! 500 pounds of catfish will be released into the pond at Community Park prior to the event. This event is catch and release so be sure you release your catch after it has been measured. Awards will be given to the winners in three age groups (0-4, 5-9, and 10-14). All participants under 17 years of age are not required to have a fishing license for the event.

Sessions will focus on specific skills, each broken down to its key elements to help the athlete understand and develop a solid foundation. Participants will learn how to set realistic goals and work through problems or obstacles independently and as a member of a team. What to bring: Water bottle and basketball. Preparing kids to stay safe at home and in the community. This is a must have class for any child who may be old enough to stay by themselves for short periods of time or any child who finds themselves separated from their guardian. This course covers fire prevention and fire escape plan, basic self- care first aid, proper use of 911, cyber safety, stranger danger, use of a fire extinguisher, how to seek help when lost, and much more! Lots of fun activities used to help engage the students and build retention.

This nationally recognized course is the complete guide to becoming the best babysitter. This is an essential course for anyone considering becoming a babysitter or who will be responsible for caring for little brothers or sisters. This course covers all aspects of babysitting from the business of babysitting to marketing yourself, appropriate behavior of a babysitter, age specific activities, FAQs of babysitters, troubleshooting when things go wrong as well as the very important skills of diapering, changing, feeding, burping, and handling an infant. This course also provides a Friends and Family CPR course covering infant, child, and adult CPR, choking, proper use of 911 and basic babysitting first aid (no card given). Using our progression-oriented curriculum, our fencing staff focus on the whole player, teaching your child the skills needed both on and off the court to be a better athlete. Each day will start with a skill of the day and progress into drills and games. This American Heart Association course is specifically designed for the community and focuses on “Hands Only CPR.” In this course you will receive all the same information as the Heartsaver CPR course but without the course completion card. This is the perfect class for community groups who do not need a card for their profession and are not in the medical industry. Simple, easy techniques are given and lots of hands-on practice for all. Infant, child, and adult CPR, choking and use of the AED (Automated External Defibrillator) are provided.

Learn how to play tennis like a pro! This tennis class is a great way to learn the fundamentals of how to play tennis while having fun.

The Parks and Recreation Department is excited to announce the continuation of our great program for City of Rowlett Senior Citizens! We partnered with DART to provide day pass vouchers valid for all DART transportation. To receive these passes, proof of Rowlett residency is required and you must be 60 years or older. Passes are available at the Rowlett Community Centre, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8am-12pm, and 1-5pm. Maximum of 5 passes per week, and up to 15 passes per month. You do not need to be a member of the Rowlett Community Centre to participate.

The Senior Citizens of Rowlett (SCOR) are serving the seniors of the community by hosting a monthly pancake breakfast at the RCC. Even if you’ve never held a paint brush or can’t draw a straight line, you will be amazed at the beautiful oil painting you can create in one inspiring lesson. Beginners learn basics of color mixing, brushstrokes and perspective while completing a landscape, seascape or still life in this fun and easy class taught by award-winning instructor, Christen Garden. All supplies; canvas, paint, brushes, medium, easel, detailed lesson plan and instruction are provided. Your class fee includes instruction and all art supplies. Please wear old clothes. This program is designed to improve strength, balance, and fitness for seniors. We aim to teach healthy habits and how to safely stretch, bend, and use our muscles. All exercises are done to music and designed for all to have fun. PACE (PEOPLE WITH ARTHRITIS CAN EXERCISE) (Activity #131104) Wednesday 9:30am This program includes standing and chair exercises developed to keep joints flexible, muscles strong, and to help reduce pain and stiffness associated with arthritis. Stretchy bands are used to warm up. Specific exercises are used for hands and fingers, as well as the muscles and joints throughout the whole body.

If you’ve wanted to start lifting weights but uncertain where to start, this is the class for you. We encourage seniors of any fitness level to take this guided instruction through our weight room. We will cover all the basics and answer any questions you might have about lifting weights or our weight room.

Learn basic tap dance steps that any tap enthusiast can do. Participants do not need tap shoes, but hard sole shoes are recommended. This program will provide participants rhythm, coordination, and mental fitness and fun!
