Harriers Early in Term 2, in very warm conditions, the annual Canterbury Secondary School Road Race was held in North Hagley Park. There was a small group of College runners, with notable results for Jasper Moss, who was 2nd in the 2km AWD event; Henry Hiatt, who was 4th in the U14 race; and Sam Idiens, who ran a great race to finish 3rd in the senior 4km event. Matty Hickman produced the run of the day, winning the U16 3km race in an impressive 9min 28sec. The CSS X-country event was held at the old Ascot Golf Course behind QEII. Conditions were excellent and the course was demanding. In the Year 9 event, Henry Hiatt was the best College finisher in 8th place while Matt Hickman was also 8th in the junior boys’ race. At the National Secondary Schools Cross-Country Championships, College’s sole competitor, Jasper Moss, ran in difficult conditions, including icy rain and a sea of mud, to win another national title. Jasper sprinted home in the 2km AWD, recording 10min 11sec to beat his rival, who finished in 10.15.
In badminton, the College B Team was victorious in its final, producing a 6–0 win over Cashmere. The team only lost one game all season and should be congratulated for its fine performance. The team featured Jordan Yee, Luke Kim, Jesse Crawshay, Adam Zhu, Angus Turnham and Caden Yee. In table tennis, the College B1 team had a comprehensive win over St Andrew’s College to win the B grade competition. The boys played very well, dropping only one game to
win 9–0. The team included Gordon Wyness, George Zhang, Ryan Gu and Leo Kim. The A and B2 sides were set to play in the 3rd/4th play- off matches, but these could not be held. In squash, College had five teams in the midweek competition. Unfortunately, no matches were able to be played after lockdown, with the CC Junior team down to play the final in the C grade while the top A side was in contention in its grade.
Winter Racquet Sports – Badminton, Squash and Table Tennis
College had 18 teams in the Wednesday CSS competitions, competing in three racquet codes.
