GIVING Giving Day – our community at its best

A memorable Giving Day has reaped a remarkable return of nearly $400,000 to ensure that more boys benefit from a life-changing education and experience through Christ’s College scholarships. The College community-wide day of giving on Wednesday 3 November far exceeded all expectations, powering past the initial $250,000 target within just a few hours of the Annual Appeal launch and rapidly climbing throughout the day. This year’s Annual Appeal took the form of a Giving Day which was to raise scholarship funds for those boys who may not otherwise be able to attend College. The outstanding response best references one of the strategic themes of College – nga ¯ kau ohaoha (philanthropy) – by giving to others of “time, talent, or treasure”. For Executive Principal Garth Wynne, those generous gifts from community connections – past and present – also highlight the College virtues of kaitiakitanga (stewardship) and nga ¯ kau aroha (compassion). “Seeing so many people who are willing to provide life-altering support to help boys achieve their potential in the College environment is awe-inspiring,” Garth says. “Thank you to those hundreds of people – from all

generations of College life – for their generosity and compassion. Put simply, you have made a huge difference.” College’s Senior Development Manager Shelley Keach says the Giving Day was a huge team effort. She is delighted with the wonderful community response which has provided opportunities for boys to come to Christ’s College. “A big thank you to everyone who supported us.”
