Condition and Health Ongoing issues for conductor life is that Vector’s network is all relatively close to the sea and therefore subjected to a more corrosive environment. All of Vector’s network less than 15 km from the nearest shoreline, and approximately 50% within 3 km of the shoreline. Overhead conductors also harden over time (anneal), becoming brittle due to wind induced vibration, movement and thermal cycling and loses some of its tensile strength.
