MADD with National Presenting Partner Nationwide® and National Supporting Partner GM Foundation®, hosted the 5 th anniversary of PowerTalk 21® on April 21 st at Dallas City Hall, and hosted more than 1,000 people on a Telephone Town Hall. The year’s focus was a sobering message from a new MADD and Nationwide survey. The results of the survey pointed to the importance of parents’ actions, in addition to their words, when influencing their children about never riding with a drinking driver. The study showed that 80 percent of parents have talked with their children about alcohol and the dangers of riding with a drinking driver, and also pointed to the fact that nearly half of parents surveyed (43 percent) said that in the past year they’ve consumed alcohol at dinner before driving their children home. Additionally, one in four parents admitted to riding with a drinking driver in the past year, and research from the Pennsylvania State University’s Department of Biobehavior Health found that children are more willing to ride with a drinking driver if their parents do.
