Soon enough, the Cornwall water tower should be sporting a new, modernized look. Work is nowunderway to upgrade the structure, located on Tollgate Road near Highway 401. %e 145-foot high structure is receiving safety access upgrades and internal lining repairs together with a full exterior over- coating. %e overall cost of the operation is believed to be around half a million dollars. “%is work will helpmaintain the inte- grity of this important piece of infrastruc- ture,” said John St. Marseille, the city’s general manager of Infrastructure and Municipal Works. %e 4.5-million litre capacity water tower has been drained and taken o!- line while the work is carried out. Crews are currently applying a second coat of urethane to the exterior of the tower and once this step is complete, they will begin the process of painting logos on the tower’s

Snowplows might be out early Don’t be surprised if you see a snowplow or sidewalk snow clearing machine running on city streets and sidewalks over the next few weeks. Municipal Works employees and contractors will once again be conducting refresher training in preparation for the upcoming winter season. Part of that trai- ning involves “dry runs” with the equipment, to allow operators to familiarize themselves with their routes and equipment. The training will also consist of reviewing health and safety policies and city procedures as well as the minimum maintenance standards and the level of service set out by the province of Ontario for winter maintenance. Cornwall Police busy in September and during Thanksgiving The Cornwall Community Police Service was quite busy during their September Traffic Action Plan, being school-bus related infractions. As a result of the enforcement, members of the Cornwall Commu- nity Police Service Patrol Division issued 11 Highway Traffic Act tickets for school bus related infractions within the city of Cornwall. During the Thanksgiving weekend, the Cornwall Community Police Service participated in the national campaign being “Operation Impact” and as a result the following charges were issued: 28 speeding charges, 7 aggressive driving charges, 2 distracted driving charges and 2 impaired charges. – Francis Racine
