one man has been startled by reading some chapter in the Bible.—Lyon. The best evidence of the Bible’s being the Word of God is to be found between its covers. It proves Itself.—Hodge. We glory in the fact that Scripture so commends itself to the conscience and experience so bears it out that the Gos pel can go the round of the world and carry with it in all its travels its own minute credentials.—Melville. So far as I have discerned God’s dealing with my soul, the flights of creatures have sometimes entertained me, but it was Scripture expressions which penetrated my heart and in a way peculiar to them selves.— Brown. We do not read of his asking, “ How may I know that this is the Word of God?” No, he trembled at it, he bowed before it, he was smitten down under it, he rent his garments. He-did not presume to sit in judgment upon the Word of God but, as was meet and right, he allowed the Word to judge him.iS|McIntosh. v. 21. Go, inquire for me. Small wonder that the king’s heart misgave him when he compared the divine ideal with the actual condition of things. (6) We need preachers who are prophets who will proclaim the whole Word of God. (7) Give God a chance and He will change conditions among any people. (8) God will give the grace if you seek to glorify Him. v. 14. Found the book of the law. The Bible may be lost through neglect, other books being substituted. Brooks false interpreta tion, its meaning being explained away.— S. & W. An unread Bible is a lost Bible.— Garry. Given by Moses. Possibly the very book which Moses himself wrote, the original copy of the Pentateuch. Cf. 2 Kings 22:8.— Comp. Bible. Literally, “ the book of the law of the Lord by the hand of Moses.” The supposition of the de structive critics that the so-called law of Moses was invented at this time and that it was not a discovery of the manu script before existing, is without foun dation in fact. There are fifteen places in the Old Testament that mention the law of Moses.—Torrey. v. 18. Read it before the king.
