“ In the world ye shall have tribula tion; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” Temptation? (1 Pet. 1:6) “ Wherein y e greatly rejoice, though now, for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations.” Fiery trials? (I Pet. 4:12) “ Beloved, think it not strange con cerning the fiery trial which- is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you, but rejoice.” Affliction? (1 Pet. 5:9) “ Whom resist steadfast in the faith,- knowing that the same afflic tions are accomplished in your breth ren that are in the world.” It was true of every event in the life of Joseph, from dream to dungeon, and in the lives of Daniel, Moses, Paul, Jesus. Take the life of Paul: When they were putting on the stripes— good! In the prison, in the stocks—good! Ship wrecked— good! (3) THE PURPOSE OF THE PROM ISE: God is working out a plan, —He is a God of order. There are natu ral laws and spiritual laws. The hand of God is behind all of the movements of the heavenly bodies; behind all p f the shifting scenes on earth; in the midst of nations and leaders; among individ uals in the insignificant acts of daily life. (Eph. 1:11-14) (2 Tim. 1:9) "Who hath saved us and called us with an holy calling; not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before the world began.” So in the 29th verse: “ For whom he did foreknow, he also did predesti nate to be conformed to the image of His Son, that he might be the first born among many brethren.” God’s plan is to conform us to the image of His Son, as was His purpose
