Reporting to the Head of Engineering, Energy and Environment, the BEMS Engineer will ensure that the Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS) and associated infrastructure deliver the most efficient, effective and technically competent service and The postholder will take a lead role in the management of the BEMS Software and Hardware and the leadership and management of the BEMS maintenance contract. The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in the management of the maintenance of controls systems across a large-scale portfolio, preferably having managed external contractors in the maintenance of Building Energy Management Systems. You will have an excellent understanding of mechanical and electrical building services, control applications and BSRIA and CIBSE industry guidelines. solutions in order to meet University requirements now and in the future.

Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS) Engineer Department/Division/Faculty: Engineering, Energy and Environment Team, Estates Operations Campus location: South Kensington Job Family/Level: Professional Services Level 4 Responsible to: Head of Engineering, Energy and Environment Key Working Relationships (internal): Estates Project Delivery, Estates Maintenance, Estates Building Operations Key Working Relationships (external): BEMS Consultants and Contractors, Equipment manufacturers, Energy services companies Contract type: Full time/permanent Purpose of the Post The post holder will ensure that the Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS) and associated infrastructure deliver the most efficient, effective and technically competent service and solutions in order to meet University requirements now and in the future. Key Responsibilities The main duties of the post will include: Management • Management of the BEMS Maintenance Contract • Management of the incumbent BEMS Maintenance provider • Management of the BEMS Software and Hardware • Introduce and manage a process for the control of adjustments to the BEMS, ensuring the College’s building temperature protocol is adhered to. • Assist the Controls Engineer with the process for transfer of new graphics to the BEMS servers. Planning & Organising • Oversee BEMS system upgrades. Liaison • Provide training to maintenance and building management staff. • Review project proposals for minor works projects. • Assist with specification of controls elements of minor works projects. Continuous Improvement • Keep abreast of new developments in the field of building energy management and assess these for benefit to the College. Where appropriate, develop costs and business case in support. • Provide feedback on performance of “preferred suppliers” to Procurement and Project Teams. • Responsible for own self development and for identifying and encouraging the continuous development of others.

Technical Specialist Activities • Manage the Building Energy Survey Review programme. The programme comprises of specific projects related to the BEMS, such as energy saving. • Carry out BEMS surveys and reviews of buildings, managing any resulting energy savings initiatives. • Manage access to the BEMS and ensure appropriate security measures are in place. • Assist with the development of the Building Engineering Services Particular Requirements.
