Spring rally for classic car buffs

Sunday morning dawned clear and cool. Perfect weather for classic car rally around Champlain Township and neighbouring communities. More than two dozen antique and classic cars and their owners lined up in the parking area around Sylmar Auto Ville on Route 34 in Vankleek Hill. Everyone was all geared up and ready to roll out for a spring Super- Cruise rally around Champlain Township, with a show-and-shine finish at the A & W in Hawkesbury. “The number of cars has been increasing,” said Martin Villeneuve, a member of the Hawkesbury Auto Club and organizer of the SuperCruise event program. He added the highlight event this year will be the May 4 Cruise, known as “Hockey Night inHawkes- bury” because most years, when it takes place, the Montreal Canadiens are part of the Stanley Cup playoff series lineup and the club has more than a few Habs fans. For some car buffs, like Raymond Vil- leneuve of Rockland, the Hawkesbury Su- perCruise is just one more excuse to show off his pride and joy: a 1930 Ford Victoria. “I never thought I would get one,” he said, smiling. “They’re so rare.” He lucked out with his favourite car. The one he acquired needed a bit of suspension work and he himself did a custom wood- grain paint job on the interior, but otherwise
