Heritage club proposed in Vars

Please note that the free space in the Community Calendar is for non- profit groups only, including sports clubs, school groups, and community service agencies. BOURGET Barbottes, beans and macaroni supper, followed by Military whist card games session, May 4, at the Bourget Community Centre, courtesy of the Cheney-Hammond Knights of Columbus. Supper 5 p.m. and cards at 7 p.m. Cost $12.50 adults, $5 children. Tickets at the door. EASTERN ONTARIO The Eastern Ontario Cobras hold their annual general meeting May 2, 7 p.m., at the St-Isidore Arena. An information session for parents of prospective players will take place at 6 p.m., prior to the agm. For informa- tion go to www.cobrashockeyaa.net. HAMMOND Registration begins for Hammon Horseshoe League. Games are Wednesday evening, May to August. Cost $30 for the season. For more details phone Diane at 487-3914. NAVAN For country music fans there is a trip to Memphis and Nashville in the works for Oct. 17 to 24. Seats limited to 46. Reserve before May 4 by phone to Lise at 835-2171 or by email to lise.lafleur@rogers.com. ORLÉANS The Guides are holding an e- cycling fair to raise funds for a European field trip in 2013. On April 28 bring any old or used computer equipment, VCRs and DVD players, cellphones,digitalcameras,television sets, and other electronic gear to the Ray Friel Recreation Complex at 1585 Tenth Line Road. The Guides’ e- cycling dropoff site is in the northwest corner of the parking lot. Collection is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. PRESCOTT-RUSSELL Prescott-Russell Community Trail Association has a Photography 101 course available this year starting May 1. Classroom instruction in na- ture photography to put to practice along the cycling trail or elsewhere. Cost $50 per session of $300 for the full season package. Phone 488-2138 for information. ROCKLAND Tucker House hosts an evening discussion session May 10, 7 p.m., with Jacinth Laforte, author of City Carbon. A $5 donation is suggested for attendance. Clarence-Rockland Public Library and Tucker House are co-hosting Green Thumb Day May 5, featuring four horticultural experts providing information and advice on a variety of gardening subjects. Children’s activities scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. also while presentations are in progress. Register for the event at the library desk or phone 446-5680. Fire up the grill. The Annual M&M Meat Shops Charity BBQ Day is May 12. All local M&M shops staff and local celebrities are cooking up snacks to raisemoney for theCrohn’s/Colitis Foundation of Canada for research and treatment of Crohn’s Disease, Colitis and similar intestinal illnesses that affect all ages but mainly children and young adults.

The idea is still in the development stage. The community association is making inquiries to other groups who might be interestedintakingpartorprovidingadvice and feedback on set-up and operations. Ottawa into the feasibility of developing a Heritage Club Héritage project for the community. The main responsibility of the club would be serving as a drop-in place for the village’s senior residents and also a focus for organizing programs and special events catering to the interests of local citizens age 60 and older.

The future is built on the past and there is no time like the present to start thinking about heritage is the belief of the Vars Community Association. The VCA is working with the two local churches, the Optimist Club and the City of
