speaks of Him as our Advocate. The day is coming, however, when He will return as Judge. In this place of su preme authority, He must perform His duty in keeping with the nature of His office. All those who have rejected His salvation during the age of grace will stand guilty and condemned before Him. There is no respect of persons in the sight of God. But there is hope! Has your case been settled out of court? Have you made your peace with God by accepting the only way of sal vation, His only begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ? “For how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? . . . There is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.” THE VALUE OF A LIFE Newspaper stories, revealing the com passion and concern people have for others, are always fascinating. This is especially true when there are children in peril. Perhaps you read about that wild 90-mile an hour race against death which, fortunately, ended happi ly for little George Swendel from York, Pennsylvania. A peanut had become lodged in the three-year-old lad’s lung, which threatened strangulation. The fa ther, an electrical engineer, sought to rush him to Philadelphia for an emer gency operation. After driving some 25 miles, a tire blew out. The child was then transferred to a police car. About 25 miles further, believe it or not, that police car broke down because of over heating. A second black-and-white mer cy vehicle took the child and finished the trip to Philadelphia, accompanied by screaming sirens. Ultimately, the boy’s life was saved. Of course, when a child’s life is at stake, no effort is spared to save his physical existence. Yet, how sad it is that man puts more of a premium on the body than he does on the never-dying soul. If just a frac tion of the effort were made to get a child to accept Jesus Christ as Saviour as is put forth in so many other areas There is a great need for fewer busy- bodies and more homebodies.

him three times each year. He wore his rubbers when it rained; he slept with the windows open and he ate plenty of fresh vegetables. This health- minded individual got eight hours of sleep every night, took his vitamin pills, never smoked, drank or lost his temper, and was all set to live to be a hundred years old. Sad to say, that when his funeral was held recently, he was sur vived by 18 specialists, four health in stitutes, six gymnasiums, and numerous dealers in health foods and antiseptics. You see he was living as if this world was all that mattered, and is now with those who say, “the harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.” Our Lord Jesus Christ assured ly promises, “He that hearth my word and believeth on Him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation but is passed from death unto life.” CHANGED POSITIONS IVs a wonderfully comforting assur ance to know that we are GocPs special concern. Jesus Christ is not only our Saviour, but also our Advocate, our Defense Attorney, in time of need. One day a criminal, who often had been before the courts, was scheduled to make another appearance. He was greatly relieved to learn that an attor ney who had defended him in previous trials had been given an appointment of judge and was to hear the case. Any hope he had for leniency was quickly dispelled, however, when the jurist told him quite frankly, “When I was an attorney, I defended you, but I’m no longer a lawyer. It’s my business in this case not to defend but to judge. After hearing the evidence, I’ll deal with you in keeping with the oath I’ve taken for this office.” This situation likewise reminds us that our Lord Jesus Christ came once to this earth as Saviour. He is even now at the right hand of God the Fa ther as our intercessor. The Bible 28 It’s too bad that many people think opportunity means a chance to get money without earning it.
