King's Business - 1920-01

THE K I N G ’ S BUS I NESS from future judgment for nothing, sal vation to peace and joy, salvation to a true and pure and useful and holy life, salvation to God’s favor, salvation to sonship, salvation to eternal life, salva tion to an “ inheritance incorruptible,, and undefiled and that fadeth not away” for nothing. Who will have it tonight? Who will believe on Jesus Christ right now and accept Him as your persorial Saviour and surrender to Him as your Lord and Master and begin to confess Him as such ■before the wor!d? ^ H WHAT THE NEW YEAR BRINGS “New Year, what have you brought us? Gifts for good or ill?” “ Take your choice,” ,he answers, “ Be it as you will.” Sorrows borne with patience Benisons impart, But there are no blessings For a thankless heart. Standing at the portal Of the opening year Words of comfort meet us, Hushing every fear. Spoken through the silence By our Father’s voice, Tender, strong and faithful, Making us rejoice. He will never fail us, He will not forsake; His eternal covenant He will never break.

2& accepted by his merits will be damned. I don’t care how good you are, if you try to get salvation by your merits you will be damned forever. God says so. Listen to His own Word, “ By the works of thfe law shall no flesh be justified in His sight, for through law cometh the knowledge of sin.” (Rom. 3‘: 20). But on the other hand, I don’t care how bad you are, if you are willing to take salvation as a free gift you can have it tonight.1 2. There is one other, point in our text on How We Are Saved, listen again, “ By grace are ye saved through faith.” Salvation is by grace, a free gift, but that free gift becomes yours through faith, that is through simply believing on. Jesus Christ in whom God offers you salvation as a free gift. Salvation is free for all, but only those get it who believe. L e t, me tell you a very old^ and a very simple story that will illus trate the point. A missionary in Lon don working among the poor in the East .End, desired to teach , them the Gospel in a striking way. Going down a poor alley ,he saw a man selling her rings. He bought the man’s whole^up- ply, and then walking, down the alley thronged with people, with the basket on his arm, he cried, “ Herrings for nothing, herrings for nothing, herrings for nothing.” No one took them, they, thought there was some trick about it somewhere. As he reached the end of the alley one man thought he would find out what it meaht, and went up and asked for some of the “ herrings for nothing.” They were at once given to him. Then all the people flocked around the man to get herrings for nothing, but it was too late. Men and women, the Lord Jesus walks down the aisles of this building tonight, crying, “ Salva tion for nothing, Salvation for nothing, Salvation for nothing,” salvation from all guilt, salvation from God’s dis pleasure, salvation from remorse, salva- tibn from the power of sin, salvation

Resting on his promises What have we to fear? God is all sufficient , For the coming year.

Mi Mi MAKING A SAFE WORLD

It is better to save men out of the world than to make the world safe for men to live in. And strange to say, the more men who are thus saved, the safer becomes the world in which they live.—Gray.
