have to leave. That was probably one of the darkest moments in my entire time as Dean, but I did not know anything about it. I heard about it afterwards. He left them with the ultimatum that either he was to go and I remain, or I was to go and he would remain. After he left, they told me later there was a vast silence in the Board meeting. Finally, Chairman Ray Myers spoke up and said, "Well, gentlemen, what is your pleasure?" and the silence continued. He said, "Is there anyone that will move that we dismiss Sam as Dean?" Nobody made the motion. After the silence continued for a few minutes he said, "Well, I guess that's it." And he instructed the Secretary of the Board to notify this professor. He was notified and he was true to his word. His resignation was in. His resignation was accepted, and he was given an automobile by the school Board. He went to teach at a small school elsewhere. After a few years he passed away from that place pretty much unknown. I felt sorry that
