plus 25 acres for subdivision to the north of the campus, thinking that faculty members would want to buy there and build. To make a rather long story short, the Southwest Park and Recreation department dragged their heels to such an extent that finally the La Mirada Development Company gave up on them and told us that if we wanted to buy the low land where the lakes were and up the draw, we could have that for $2,000 an acre. We could put our athletic facilities on that property and sutxlivide more of the top land, and make that much more money. That seemed good to us, so we purchased an additional 85 acres of land so that altogether Biola owned, including 160 acres on the top land and in the draw. There is an interesting sidelight on the purchase of this land for a college. The owner of the La Mirada Development Company was Jewish, a Mr. Lou Helper. He was a pretty sharp businessman. When we picked out the acreage that we wanted right in the heart of what is now La Mirada,
