RUSSELL l Two Russell girls are collecting practical shoes, especially in children’s sizes, to give to Soles4Souls, a charity that collects, ships and distributes shoes to areas where children are without shoes, including disaster areas. Kyla Penney and Charlotte Wickens de- cided on collecting shoes for the charity as a way to get their international service badges, the Lady Baden-Powell Badge, for Girl Guides, but have gone over and above on this project.

Le Club Optimiste d’Embrun, en col- laboration avec le Marché Bonichoix d’Embrun, organise une collecte de sang le 9 avril prochain. Les donneurs peuvent se rendre au Centre récréa- tif d’Embrun, entre 16h30 et 20h30. Ils peuvent également appeler pour prendre rendez-vous afin d’éliminer l’attente en composant le 1 866 JE DONNE. Les membres du Club Opti- miste seront sur place lors de cette col- lecte afin d’accompagner les donneurs et leur servir une collation gracieuse- ment offerte par le Marché Bonichoix. Collecte de sang à Embrun Soles4Souls estimates that each person may have up to three pairs of shoes in their closets that are no longer worn and are still in great shape. Practical shoes such as sandals and runners, of all sizes are in high need. Charlotte Wickens and Kyla Penney are collecting shoes and funds for shipping the shoes on behalf of Souls4Soles, a charity that provides shoes to children and families in the world who do not have them, including in areas of disaster relief. By asking friends to clean out their clos- ets and through collection boxes set up at Mother Teresa School and Barry’s Home Hardware, the girls had collected, at last count, over 250 pairs of shoes and will con- tinue until Easter weekend. They’re also col- lecting money to help the charity pay for the cost of shipping, estimated at $1 per pound. Their goal was 200 pairs.
