Music There are many ways in which boys can access music and learn to appreciate it in its different forms. In addition to the curricular programme, there are a number of seminars given by professionals from the world of music, and use is made of the College’s unique archive of books and 18th– century music manuscripts. There are also regular opera trips and other concert visits during the academic year.

Alongside the well-established programme for musical performance, other opportunities include a jazz concert at The Hideaway in Streatham, the House Music Competitions (Instrumental, Part song, Vocal and Rock Competitions) and the series of Lunchtime Concerts given by College musicians at the College Chapel in association with Dulwich Picture Gallery. ’My musical experience at the College has been extremely rewarding; the teachers are all dedicated to excellence and I have had the opportunity to perform many solo and ensemble works.’ Robert Miller, Year 13

Cecilia McDowell, composer-in-residence.

We are lucky to have Cecilia McDowall, a composer of international reputation, as our composer– in–residence. Cecilia makes frequent visits to the College and is able to provide one-to-one supervision to students at GCSE and A level. She has also given a number of fascinating talks on the art of composition. Other opportunities for composers have included individual tutorials with Professor Robin Holloway (Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge) and a seminar on the processes of composition by Professor David Osbon, and coaching by a song- writer in residence, Luke Ritchie OA.
