Professor David Osbon talked about his life, his philosophy of music, writing music for the London Olympics and his new Violin Concerto, premiered in California in 2014. ‘My musical life at Dulwich has been characterised by a very good balance between academic development and individual instrumental performance. Many different areas of music are catered for in the teaching of all the year groups and much has been done to ensure that as many opportunities as possible have been made available to all.’ James Orford, Year 13 Music technology is forming an increasing part of the boys’ experience, and the new Mac Suite provides a chance to explore how technology and studio production are applied to film and other contemporary music. ‘Composing with the Macs is fun and different from other lessons. on the compositional process and the job of a film composer. Amongst other projects, Sarah is currently working on music for a BBC WWI drama entitled The Home Front , directed by David Vincent. Sarah presented a very well received hour–long session that captivated the boys’ imaginations and inspired them with excerpts from her score for Robomax . ‘Year 8 was given a fascinating talk on film music by Sarah Warne. Clips were used to show the different versions of music being put to the actual film. Apart from Sarah’s music being shown, other music was played, for example, Harry Potter and Darth Vader. Year 8 thoroughly enjoyed the talk and went away with new experience on the subject of film music.’ Theo Butter, Year 8
