Thinking Matters

Mr Trevill’s seminar was entitled: ‘One man (or woman) against the world? The struggle of the individual within society in Ibsen’s An Enemy of The People.’

To follow the three previous Symposia, on ‘Science and the Imagination’, ‘Brains, Minds and Machines’ and ‘Time’, the fourth annual Symposium day for the Upper School in October focused on the theme of ‘Society and the Individual’.

The keynote talks in the Great Hall covered the re- integration of criminals into society, the Charter of Internet Rights and Responsibilities, and the new brand of controversial and politically relevant online games, such as ‘Endgame Syria’, designed by one of our speakers, Tomas Rawlings, the Wellcome Trust’s gaming consultant. The other keynote speakers were Dr Lawrence Ratnasabapathy, Consultant Psychiatrist at Barnet General Hospital, Mark Littlewood, Director General of the Institute for Economic Affairs, and Marianne Franklin, Reader in Global Media & Transnational Communications at Goldsmiths.
