This professional development session will focus on the concept of “soothing sanctuaries” — designated safe spaces within the classroom designed to support students in regulating their emotions. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the definition, purpose, and impact of soothing sanctuaries, along with practical strategies for establishing and effectively utilizing these spaces in alignment with established expectations. The session will also provide a curated list of recommended tools for equipping soothing sanctuaries. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a hands-on “make and take” activity, creating a selection of tools to help launch their own soothing sanctuaries.
