“I think it’s a great idea that we have a spe- cialized group that zeroes in on a topic,”said Mayor St-Pierre during the Oct. 21 regular session, but he suggested council defer ap- proval of a special recreation complex com- mittee until its December meeting sessions. The mayor observed that such a com- mittee needs specific terms of reference to serve as its guidelines and also cited a need for such a committee to align itself with the township’s existing parks and recreation advisory committee and the municipal stra- tegic plan which already identifies a recrea- tion complex as a future need, Cullen and Leroux objected to delaying approval for creating the special commit- tee. “I don’t see any reason why we can’t go ahead with this,” said Coun. Cullen. Councillors Jamie Laurin and Éric Bazinet sided with the mayor. “I didn’t see anything out there that was pressing,” said Coun. Laurin, referring to the PowerPoint presentation information from Cullen and Leroux. “No one is saying ‘No’ to a committee,” said Mayor St-Pierre. “Let’s take the time now and make sure we do things right.”The mayor also noted any actual work for such a committee would not begin until the start of the new year. Consideration of a motion of support for a special recreation committee is deferred until the December committee of the whole session of council. Vote on approval of the motion and creation of the committee will take place during the last regular council session in mid-December. Russell Christmas Parade
