Louis Vuitton's artistic new garb
I f your path just happens to lead you to one of the locations of the Louis Vuitton fashion empire these days, you’re sure to notice that you will be greet- ed not by the recognisable monogram that trans- formed this former luggage maker into a fashion mega-success, but rather by polka dots. And plenty of them. The brand’s flagship boutiques have become an artist’s canvas for the work of an author who goes by the name of Yayoi Kusama, and this 93-year-old Japanese artist and writer is renowned for her radiant creativi- ty, at the core of which is a motif in a circular form that has led to her being dubbed the “Queen of Polka Dots”. Although this isn’t the first time that Vuitton and Kusama have co-signed a limited-edition series, this time it certainly comes as a dose of fashion phantasmagoria that was more than needed by all of us. As a reminder, it was more than a decade ago, or more precisely in 2012, that this house of fashion’s then creative director, Ameri- can creator Marc Jacobs, launched the first collaboration with Yayoi Kusama on a collection of LV style pieces that were, thanks to her authentically abstract vision, more reminiscent of sculptures than trendy objects of desire. Today’s collaboration between this avant-garde art- ist and the fashion establishment standard seems to lean more towards logomania than celebrating the author’s stamp. Kusama's playful and almost childlike artistic ethos is presented on men’s sports shoes, hard-side suitcases and even a surfboard. Given that this collaboration has been conceived as a two-part collection, with the initial January launch followed by the continuation that’s set to arrive in mid-March, there will also be stylish “main- stays” of the Vuitton offer – you will be able to buy a special polka-dot version of the famous Speedy hand- bag, just like the fisherman’s bucket hats, glasses and silk pyjamas that are just too good to be reserved only for wearing “at home”. However, even if the cheapest accessories in this lim- ited-edition series are out of your price range, don’t miss out on the chance to check out the look of the special set- ting of boutiques during this encounter between fash- ion and art – merely entering the space is an interest- ing and almost psychedelic experience. And we’re sure you won’t be able to resist shooting a selfie in one of the polka-dot-covered mirrors. Enter the world of colourful polka-dots After a break of more than a decade, this historically important French fashion house has returned to a recognisable artistic collaboration – and the result is phenomenal
Ovo nije prvi put da „Vuitton“ i Kusama zajedno potpisuju jednu limitiranu seriju This isn’t the first time that Vuitton and Kusama have co- signed a limited-edition series
