Karakterišu je termomineralni izvori, čist vazduh obogaćen nega- tivno naelektrisanim jonima, živopisni pejzaži, izuzetni gastronomski proizvo- di poput sireva ili jagnjetine ispod sača, zvuci harmonike na tradicionalnom ta- kmičenju harmonikaša i konačno go- stoljubivost njenih meštana. Budući da Sokobanja ima izuzetan ge- ostrateški položaj i da se nalazi na naj- kraćem putu koji spaja centralnu Evro- pu sa Bliskim istokom, logično je bilo da osvajači utabaju stazu upravo kroz So- kobanju. Rimljani su bili prvi koji su pri- metili blagodatno dejstvo termalnih izvora i tu sagradili prva kupatila, u ko- jima su se okrepljivali i opuštali. Lekovi- tu moć sokobanjskih izvora tople vode takođe su prepoznale i Osmanlije i na temeljima rimskih termi izgradile svo- ja kupatila, koja su u to vreme pred- stavljala prestiž, tako da i dan-danas stoji Amam i koristi se u svrhu očuva- nja zdravlja i mladosti i lečenja raznih zdravstvenih tegoba. The healing properties of the waters of Sokobanja have been known for cen- turies, but it was only Miloš Obrenović who ordered spa tourism be developed in eastern Serbia. The diverse land- scape that provides Sokobanja with its unique identity represents the very es- sence of its magical allure. It is charac- terised by hot mineral springs, clean air enriched with negatively charged ions, picturesque landscapes, exception- al gastronomic produce like cheeses or
lamb baked under a lid, the sounds of accordions emanating from its tradi- tional accordion competition and, fi- nally, the hospitality of its residents. Given that Sokobanja enjoys an ex- ceptional geostrategic position and is located along the shortest road con- necting Central Europe and the Mid- dle East, it was logical for conquer- ors to forge their path straight through Sokobanja. The Romans were the first to recognise the beneficial effects of the thermal springs and build the first invigorating and relaxing baths. The healing powers of the Sokobanja hot springs were also recognised by the Ot- tomans, who constructed their own prestigious bathhouses on the founda- tions of the Roman thermal baths. That Hammam remains standing to this day and continues to be used to preserve health and youth, and to treat various health issues. Everyone will find what they need here, which is why you shouldn’t miss out on the chance to enrich your life experi- ence by indulging in this wondrous fu- sion of nature, history and the culture of the people who’ve inhabited this area.
