Ipak, svi se slažu u jednom: Čikago je raj za gurmane! / Some refer to it as the Windy City, while others stick to the former, less flattering moniker of the Second City (reflecting its rivalry with NYC) – and yet everyone agrees on one thing: Chicago is a paradise for gourmets!

U pogledu gastrono- mije Čikago ima nešto istinski jedinstveno. Ma- sivni metropolis je redak urbani hab koji istovremeno deluje gla- murozno i globalno zadržavajući auru skromnosti i izostanak pre- tenzije. To je i inače sentiment ko- ji prožima svaki segment lokalne kulture, ali nigde nije tako eviden- tan kao na tanjiru. In gastronomic terms, Chicago has something truly unique. This huge me- tropolis is a rare urban hub that si- multaneously appears both glamor- ous and global, maintaining an aura of humility and a complete lack of pre- tentiousness. This is actually a senti- ment that otherwise permeates every segment of the city’s local culture, but is nowhere more evident than on the dinner plate. One of the rare cities to be crowned with Michelin stars and the new home of the influential gastro- nomic awards of the James Beard Foundation, it certainly has the as- sets required to be considered a place where you can find phenomenal eat- ing – but among all of Chicago’s up- market venues and the pomp of its ceremonial events, local “foodies” speak with equal passion (and rel- ish) about neighbourhood taquerias and hot dog stands.
