Hello and happy holidays!

ORGANIZATIONSWE SUPPORT

This time of year, I often find myself reflecting on our firm’s journey. Since the very first days of Cronin Law Firm, my focus has been on helping people. I started the firm so I could be a voice and give strength to those who need it. As the firm has grown, our team and I have stayed committed to offering the personalized experience clients have come to expect. Each member of our team listens with care and compassion; each person we serve is treated as an individual, not a number. We understand that your matter is the most important part of your life in that moment, and we treat it that way. While it was just me in the early days of Cronin Law Firm, over the last several years, I have built a team who shares my values and philosophy of service. Our mission is helping people by empowering them throughout not only their legal issues but also their lives altogether. We are committed to providing our clients with the highest level of service possible.

MEDICAL MIRACLE ORHEALTHHOAX? 3 Red Flags to Watch Out For The new year is a great time to make your health a priority again, and there are a bunch of workouts and diet plans to choose from. Too many, some might say. It can be difficult to determine exactly which health plan will help you reach your goals, but there are some pretty obvious red flags that you’ll want to avoid. BEWARE THE DREADED ‘DETOX’ Plenty of diets, supplements, and products claim to “purify” your body by removing unspecified “toxins.” These “detoxes” conveniently forget that your kidneys and liver are already removing substances your body doesn’t need! The human body has been capable of cleansing itself for thousands of years. It doesn’t need a special smoothie or footpads to get the job done. Most detox products are nothing but snake oil, and some of them can leave you feeling worse than you did before you started using them. Unless you have been diagnosed with a disease that would impair your liver or kidneys, you don’t need to spend extra money to keep your insides clean. A healthy diet is enough. CELLULITE ISN’T REAL In 1968, Vogue magazine introduced American women to the word “cellulite,” warning them of a terrible “diagnosed” condition women suffered from. They encouraged the use of a special rolling pin to banish the little lumps of fat on women’s thighs and buttocks. Since then, cellulite has been used as shorthand to mean “bad body fat you need to remove.” But cellulite is not an indication of poor health. Furthermore, there’s no cure for cellulite because it’s not a disease. It would be like using a special lotion that claims it can remove the wrinkled skin on your knuckles! Most people, especially women, have cellulite. It’s perfectly natural! If you want to get in shape this year, avoid diets or products that claim to melt cellulite. This is a clear indication these treatments aren’t based on real medical science. CURE-ALLS CURE NOTHING A “cure-all” is any product, treatment, or diet that claims to cure a bunch of unrelated medical problems. Cure-alls have been a problem for centuries, claiming to help with weight loss, migraines, heart disease, anxiety, depression, and even baldness! This isn’t how medicine or the human body works. One change cannot magically fix many different, sometimes unrelated, problems. A good way to determine if something is a cure-all is to check if it claims to help treat, prevent, or cure cancer. That’s a big red flag you want to avoid.

ROYAL RINKS Curling Athletes Every Fan Should Know Every four years, as some of the world’s best Olympic athletes battle for gold medals, the world falls in love with curling. Curling originated in 16th-century Scotland and is most popular in Canada, where many Scots immigrated. Now, 480 years after the first recorded instance of curling occurred on a frozen pond in Scotland, many devotees have left their mark on the sport’s history. These are just a few of the greats. ROY THIESSEN Choosing only one devoted coach to highlight is difficult, but it must be Roy Thiessen. Roy coached championship teams — or rinks, as they are called in curling — at both provincial and national levels. His expertise led him to chair the first Saskatchewan Summer Games in 1972, the World Junior Men’s Curling Championships in 1979, and the World Ladies’ Curling Championships in 1983. Budding athletes can learn all of Roy’s secrets and the fundamentals of curling in the numerous books he wrote. HARVEY MAZINKE CURLING TEAM In 1973, Canada held its collective breath as the Harvey Mazinke Curling Team took their final shot in a world championship match against Sweden. The rock ultimately failed to reach the rings, crowning Sweden as world champions and snapping the 10-0 record Harvey Mazinke had built during a week of competition. But regardless of that final score, Harvey Mazinke’s impact on the sport was not diminished. The teamwas crowned the Canadian Men’s Curling Champions in 1973, and the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame recognizes them as “ambassadors to the game.” JOYCE MCKEE CURLING TEAM Without Joyce McKee, Sylvia Fedoruk, Donna Belding, and Muriel Coben, the Canadian Ladies Curling Association Championship, now called the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, would have never become the nationally recognized organization it is today. The aforementioned women were part of the Joyce McKee rink and were the first winners of the championship in 1960. Their style, play, and knowledge propelled women’s curling into the leagues of men’s competitions, proving that women could compete at just as high of a level as their male peers. To this day, the Joyce McKee rink’s accuracy is unparalleled. If you can’t wait another two years before curling hits center stage at the Winter Olympics, check out the podcast “Curling Legends” to get your fix of curling greatness.

HOWTO FINDTHE BEST LAWYER A 4-Step Guide

3. ‘INTERVIEW’ YOUR TOP CANDIDATES. Once you’ve done your research, select 3–4 top candidates. Make appointments (ask if these are complementary first) with each one and “interview” them with specific questions related to your situation. Even as you’re meeting with them, know that there are no guarantees in any type of legal matter, so take any promises an attorney makes with a grain of salt.

If you’ve never needed a lawyer before, finding one you feel comfortable working with who focuses on the area of law you need can be a daunting task. For a lot of our clients, it’s the first time they’re going through this process. Bombarded by billboards and radio ads from various law firms vying for your attention, it’s hard to knowwho is going to be best for you and your case. First, take a deep breath. It’s going to be okay. Then, find some clarity and direction with this step-by-step guide put together by Sabrina Cronin

1. ASK FRIENDS, FAMILY, AND COWORKERS.

4. TRUST YOUR GUT.

At the end of the day, how you feel is the most important factor. If you don’t feel comfortable with an attorney or aren’t feeling heard when you first meet them, then they’re probably not going to be the best person to represent your case. Want to know more? You can find this and other legal topics covered on the Cronin Law Firm YouTube channel, where our experienced and compassionate founder, attorney Sabrina

When you’re looking for an attorney, ask people you know and trust who can give you their honest opinion of attorneys they know. Use this as a starting point to gather a list of potential candidates.

2. DO YOUR RESEARCH.

Once you have a list of potential lawyers, check out their website, Google reviews,

Avvo reviews, and Martindale profile (martindale.com). Find out from the Michigan State Bar Association if a lawyer you’re considering has had any suspensions or grievances against them.
