LEARNING TO DEAL WITH THEM AND US We need to begin by seeing our own blind spots; realize our defense mechanisms and ability to rationalize away personal issues that should require our careful attention. Sadly we so often see quite clearly what others are doing wrong, but fail to recognize our own struggles or our own complicity. It is easy to talk about them failing to do this or wrongly doing that . We fail to acknowledge what lurks in our own hearts and how we contribute to the situation. We need to get beyond labeling others’ behavior or to condemn. It calls us first of all to draw close, to listen, to discern, to realize the factors that contribute to actions that we do not agree with. It prompts us to look at ourselves, as so much of what is wrong, can be what is wrong with us also. This challenges us to both humility and repentance, learning to say I’m sorry, I was wrong ; five of the hardest words we can speak. We need to learn to extend our arms out towards other people rather than inflict our judgment upon them. Jesus points out in the Bible His standard for living and loving and knowing Him. We need to get past the blind spots of our own self sufficiency and admit our desperate need for His Love and acceptance. That is precisely why He died on the cross, giving us the reality of forgiveness if we ask Him to forgive us. Romans 6:23: the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life. This Easter is a great time to reflect on His love and to allow Him to lead us into life with true meaning and purpose. Take a hard look at your life, analyzing what you have done with the gift Jesus has made available to you, if you accept it . John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him has eternal life.
