EOFY always brings a to-do list, but this year two changes land on the same day — July 1 — and both hit hospitality square on the chin. Get them right and you’ll barely notice. Get them wrong and you’re looking at underpayments, penalties, and a very awkward chat with the ATO.
1. The 4.75% Award Wage Increase
First, pay rates. The Fair Work Commission has handed down a 4.75% increase to award rates , applying from the first full pay period on or after July 1. Accommodation and food services is one of the most award-reliant industries in the country, so this touches nearly every venue. • The Risk: The danger isn’t the rise itself — it’s making sure every base rate, penalty, loading, and allowance updates correctly across casuals, juniors, and full-timers. Do that by hand across a roster and mistakes are almost guaranteed. • The Fix: This is exactly the sort of thing your software should carry for you. Tanda interprets both the Hospitality Award and the Restaurant Award automatically. When the new rates apply, they update across every shift and classification without spreadsheet gymnastics.

2. The Shift to “Payday Super”
From July 1, super has to be paid at the same time as wages and must reach the employee’s fund within seven business days of each payday — no more quarterly compounding.
