Tasmanian Hospitality Review - June/July 2026

Great Customer Experience Program

Flinders Island Shines Bright as Winter Approaches Winter on the island is a truly beautiful time of year, characterised by crisp air, dramatic landscapes and an incredibly peaceful atmosphere. However, like most regional and remote areas, as the days get shorter, businesses can battle due to slower turnover. Hospitality Tasmania actively collaborates during this shoulder season to ensure regional venues remain vibrant, sustainable, and ready to welcome guests with genuine warmth. A central highlight of this seasonal preparation is the targeted Hospitality Tasmania support with Venue Awareness Sessions. These initiatives focus on boosting winter visitation, strengthening business resilience across the island and understanding the customer. Recent sessions took place at iconic local hubs, including the Interstate Hotel, the Furneaux Tavern and the Flinders Island Bakery. During these sessions operators and their staff, with the support from Daz at HT, discussed the advantages of understanding their business model and just how important customer service is to keep venues humming.

• The Flinders Island Bakery fills the morning air with the irresistible scent of freshly baked bread, hot pastries and perfect coffee, making it a favourite daily stop to warm up and fuel a day of exploration. This collective effort ensures that every visitor experiences the absolute best of the island’s famous community spirit. If you are thinking of visiting Flinders Island during the cooler months, it comes highly recommended. You will find roaring fires, exceptionally fresh local produce, and hospitality venues that are genuinely warm and welcoming.

TESTIMONIAL “The venue awareness session at Furneaux Tavern was really helpful. Darren shared some great insights about creating positive customer experiences, understanding different types of customers, and how good hospitality can make a big difference. I learnt a lot about the business side of hospitality and feel more confident interacting with customers. Thanks, Darren, for making it engaging and easy to understand!” - Emma, Furneaux Tavern

North West Momentum Continues

MIKE AND LISA AT THE INTERSTATE HOTEL

The venues themselves offer the perfect antidote to the chilly weather: • The Interstate Hotel provides a historic, cozy setting where locals and visitors gather by the fire to share stories and enjoy hearty, comforting meals. • The Furneaux Tavern serves as a vital community anchor, offering sweeping coastal views alongside a warm, inviting atmosphere and excellent local hospitality.

It’s been full steam ahead for the Great Customer Experience (GCE) Program across Tasmania’s North West Coast, with Gena continuing to support local venues and hospitality teams through the valuable government-funded initiative. Over recent weeks, staff venue awareness sessions have been delivered right across the region — from the welcoming team at Elizabeth Town Cafe, through to Ocean View Motel and onto Smithton’s popular Hugo’s Brew & Chew.
