Now, the award-winning hotel is preparing to add a new chapter to its story with the development of LUMINA, a purpose-built event space designed to elevate Tasmania’s business and social events offering. Set within the prestigious Parliament Square precinct, LUMINA is being developed as an architectural landmark that combines contemporary design with a distinctly Tasmanian identity. When complete, the venue will provide a versatile new space capable of hosting everything from conferences and gala dinners to weddings, cocktail functions and corporate events. The project represents far more than an expansion of its facilities for The Tasman - it is an opportunity to further showcase Tasmania to visitors from around Australia and the world. To delight guests – from event organisers seeking rare and wild incentive destinations, to individuals searching for a trusted venue for life’s most meaningful events.” Designed by fjcstudio, the architects behind The Tasman itself, LUMINA has been conceived to complement the surrounding heritage and contemporary architecture of Parliament Square while bringing something entirely new to Hobart’s event landscape. One of the venue’s defining features is its clear-span design. Remarkably, LUMINA will be completely column-free, creating an open and flexible space that can be transformed to suit a wide variety of event formats. The absence of structural columns ensures unobstructed sightlines throughout the venue, a feature increasingly sought after by event organisers.

The venue will include both primary and pre- function spaces, with capacity for up to 220 guests at cocktail-style events, 200 banquet guests or 150 in a cabaret-style setting. The design allows seamless transitions between intimate gatherings and large-scale functions, offering flexibility rarely found in Tasmania’s current events market.
