Satan Attacks the Lord Jesus The key to our study is the fact that Jesus Christ is the promised, victorious Redeemer. Despite the diabolical efforts of Satan, there is nothing which can thwart God's redemptive plan of love and grace on behalf of fallen man. Since there was no way that the devil could keep Christ from being born into this world through the virgin, he makes his next attempt at moving against the Lord by seeking to keep Him from going to the cross. Consider the temptation of our Saviour. We cannot help but be impressed with the fact that the best weapon any believer has with which to combat the devil is the Word of God. First of all note Matthew 2:12-18 which reminds us that Joseph and Mary had to flee into Egypt because of the pressures of Herod. There
they remained until his death was certain. Herod, of course, was the wicked Roman-appointed ruler ov er Judea. He obtained his kingdom by bloody crimes and political in trigue. He was naturally alarmed when he heard of a newborn king who might threaten his monarchy through anarchy. He knew the re ligious fervor of the Jews and their expectancy of a human deliverer from Cod. When the wise men came to seek the Saviour-King, Herod wanted to know who and where He was. He became the evil tool of the devil. Cod knew the heart of Herod that he had no intention of worship ping the Lord. The wise men never returned to Herod with the report of where the baby was born. He was infuriated and ordered the wholesale killing of all the male
