MIDLANDS NATIONAL FLYING CLUB WEYMOUTH

Taking 1st South Centre Section & 1st Open with a stunning chequer hen, raced on the Darkness system was Dutton & Emery who have been flying a brilliant pigeon all season and for many seasons before. James shared with me that he was accom- panied on the day by his two daughters (Grace & Olivia) and two spectators on the day Robert Boff and Les Pinfield, who are both Stratford lads. His winning pigeon was a Lambrecht x Alex Docx pigeon, she has already been a fantastic YB this season coming to win with loft mates three times, she was sent sitting eggs due to chip out on

Young Bird National sponsored by Beyers, but there was also an Old Hens Classic, the Young Bird Gold Ring scheme and the Young Bird Exchange race all up for grabs from the same Weymouth liberation site. So, lots to be flown for and plenty of interesting dynamics for many fanciers.

the race day which clearly motivated her to get home! James would like to take this opportunity to thank his dad Gary Dutton and wife to be Krystal for all there help throughout the season, saying that without them two this wouldn’t have been possible and not forget- ting his two daughters Grace & Olivia too, who also have a massive interest in the birds. Those that are members of the Facebook social media platform will see posts shared by James of Krystal with scraper firmly in her hand, literally mucking in. It is great to see how the sport can bring families closer together and when all pull together as a team what can be achieved. A big congratulations to James and his family from the club and the membership. Taking the next four positions in both the South Centre Section & Open was prolific Purchase & Walker clocking three cocks and one hen all within 1ypm to win 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th South Centre Section and 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th Open. The partnership shared with me their first pigeon sire is bred from their best G Owen stock cock crossed with the charity hen out best S McDonough stock hen. Dam is a retired from racing when she won prices being granddaughter of ‘Charity Hen’. This pigeon this year has won 6th Worcester Fed AWBBLMS 2,816 birds, 4th Wolverhampton fed AWBBLMS 901 birds. Their second pigeon is bred by John van Erck and has won 34th Worcester Fed 2,816 birds, 19th Wolverhampton Fed 90 birds. I’ll start with the main event the Beyers Young Bird National where 118 members sent 1,524 birds, with £1,300 prize money and £2,566 in pools and nominations were ready and waiting to be won. As mentioned above the race was held from Weymouth on the 9th September, which had been forecast

great picture below and wanted to express his thanks to John Wheatcroft, Des & Michael Gardener for all the great birds they have bred him. Third & 4th North Centre Section and 30th & 112th Open was Roger & Mark Duffield. Mark told me the first bird home is a young Heremans-Ceusters hen who had previ- ously scored at club level. The sire to the hen had previously topped the Federation and its dam is a full sister to a cock that was 2nd Section out of Homesley in 2021. Winning 1st & 4th North East Section and 24th & 65th Open was K Bowskill. Kevin, Joy and I had some real IT challenges to get his picture and information sent across, but with some perseverance and a combination of email, Facebook and Whatsapp we got there in the end. His winning blue cock had already won 1st Open North East Provincial this year. He was bred by L & S Gash out of a Marina Van De Velde hen that Kevin had gifted them himself for them to race. She went on to top the Notts & Derby Boarder Federation, winning 1st Section 3rd Open Northern Classic as well as a few other top positions in the MNFC Section. The sire was put to stock in 2022 to form a golden breeding pairing with the hen mentioned above, siring an East Midlands Region RPRA award winner, Worksop Gold Ring winner and many other top fed positions. A great example of co breeding and the spirit of the sport. Second & 3rd North Eeast Section and 26th & 27th Open was Simon Parkinson.

hen’. Dam is bred from a top S McDonough stock cock x Belg 36 out best Robin Van Leuven stock hen breeder of four 1st Fed for us. Next on the result taking 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th South West Section and 6th, 7th, 8th & 9th Open and winning the Gold Ring race was Doug & Mark Nesbitt & Son. Another top loft and team that features in the results Mark & Lynne Nesbitt shared with me that their first bird is a Gold Ring pigeon. Her dam won 4x1st Federations and was Fed Bird of the Year for three years in a row. She was crossed with a son of ‘Snowball Old Cock’, the ‘15’ cock was her nest mate who won 3rd Section 3rd Open MCC Weymouth and was 1st Burton South Darby Federation two weeks prior to the MNFC race. Winning 1st & 2nd North Centre Section and 20th & 21st Open was Terry Higgs only sending a dozen birds. Terry shared the

to be the hottest day of the year. The weath- erman on this occasion got it right with temperatures hitting the mid 20 degrees Celsius by early morning and peaking at 34 degrees Celsius at the hottest point in the day, with no wind at lib. The birds weren’t released until 9.45am due to some early mist and fog obstructing the line of flight. What little wind there was, was coming from the east, so all flyers knew it wasn’t going to be an easy day and the first birds’ home would be very worthy winners! 1st Young Bird National Weymouth (Lambrecht x Alex Docx, dhequer hen for Dutton & Emery).
