Gary Leigh of Hyde. The chequer hen who took 2nd Section is bred from a grandson of ‘Kitsag’ from Patrick Boecx crossed with a grandaughter of ‘Donker Leo’. She’s been a very consistent hen racing and scoring at club and Fed level. Paul wants to say a big thank you to Gary Leigh for breeding this hen and congratulations to the Section & Open winners. Third North West Section and 44th Open was Mr & Mrs Hargreaves. Andrew said that he timed a young blue cock racing on the sliding door system, who was very keen on a young hen. He is bred off a pair of exchange birds from local top fancier and friend Anthony Rushton. This pair are Vandenabeele’s and have bred Andrew several top winning birds in Fed and National races over the years. He had 18 from 20 sent on the day and one next morning, so considering the conditions returns were good. First West Section and 57th Open was Ian Arnold & David Johnson. The partnership shared with me they would like to congratu- late the winners and all Section winners. Their winning pigeon was bred by Stuart Knowles of Widnes who is a very good Freddie Bannister’s South East Section winner.

Maurice Jackson 2nd West North Section.

Ian, Arnold & David Johnson 1st West Section.

The second bird Simon clocked was another young cock who has been a consis- tent performer all season. She is dam and grand dam to 100’s of 1st prize winners and ace pigeons. First & 4th North West Section and 40th & 53rd Open was Nathan Foulkes. Nathan shared with me that his Section winning blue cock was sent sitting 14 day old eggs. He had flown very consistently all season scoring in three races and scored in the Packmore Open, winning around £400 he’s never far away. Nathan said he had a very good race and achieving 100% returns. Second North West Section and 42nd Open was Paul Beck. Paul said that all his YBs this year were bred by his good friend

This is his first season flying with young birds only and he was delighted to get 4th West Section in his first ever National race. The blue hen he clocked was sent on chipping eggs and he had good returns overall having 19/20 home on the day. First South East Section & 32nd Open was F Bannister. Simon would said he would like to start by congratulating James Dutton and family for winning the Young Bird National, they have flown a fantastic young bird team in 2023 and he also wanted to express his congrat- ulations to his club mate and friend Kev Bowskill on winning the Section. Kev and Simon have had some great tussles all season and Simon shared Kevin is a fantastic pigeon man. In regard to his own performance, Simon had a good race with the young birds winning 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 8th & 10th Section. The young birds were March bred, Darkness pigeons, flown on the sliding door system. Two birds arrived together with some of the old hens which unfortunately meant they went round for a few laps (show- boating to the hens). His first bird on the clock was a young cock that has been very consistent this season arriving in the first batch on numerous occasions. He was bred in the Widowhood loft, his sire is a Luc van Mechelen x Luc Christieans, he has won many prizes, but unfortunately damaged his wing earlier this season. His dam is a Luc van Mechelen bird being a granddaughter of ‘Adriano’ x ‘New Robina’, she has won numerous prizes including 1st Open NEPC. Bateman Bros & Son 2nd West Section.
