wins and the previous Saturday of course winning the old hens NRCC National and top places in the YB NRCC National. Well done to Bob Frew, club mate and friend for being second and a good pay day. Many thanks for all the messages we received, it means a lot. And finally, thanks to the ‘Boss’ Tom Burkill for pushing us on and on and on to achieve our aims for the season. Roger Hallsworth 7th and 36th Open, 1st Section. My money winning birds in the Futurity race are a nest pair bred by John Wheatcroft to try in this race. Youngsters are

area. He’s a Heremans-Ceusters, a grandson of ‘Gordono’ (brother to ‘Man O Chester’). The dam came from Tom Burkill’s stock loft and is a Gert de Swaef x Alex Docx. As most people are aware I do the day to day running at Tom’s loft. We are partners in everything but name. Both his and my lofts are treated, trained and fed exactly the same. The winning hen has a bit of previous, 1st Club 19th Fed 112 miles, 13th Club 14th Fed 143 miles. Prepared for the race by having a 112-mile race on the NRCC YB National weekend. On return she started to show to a cock for the first time. She was left with him till the Tuesday morning. The cock was removed and put back Thursday afternoon and she was straight in the bowl with him and was still sat there on Friday basketing morning. And the rest as they say is history. The win rounded of a fantastic season for myself and Tom, winning probably around 30x1st plus 12 Fed

Futurity prize of £3,500 only to be disquali- fied by not putting your Futurity YB up for sale and not buying it back or letting another fancier have the chance of racing it so, please, next year make sure all your Futurity YBs are put up for the sales and hopefully we’ll see some more fanciers having a shot of winning some of this magnificent prize money. Basketing day figures show 21 members in Section 1 put through 48 birds whereas Section 2 saw 26 members put through 81 birds giving a total birdage of 47 members and 129 birds in total. With Paul Bakewell standing in for Merv as wingman to convoyer Darren Shepherd, the NRCC transporter made its way up to Dunbar arriving in good time and without any obsta- cles on the way to slow the journey down. As always, Darren kept all the fanciers updated with regular videos and pictures of the Futurity birds being cared for and kept a close eye on the weather forecast for race day. After a settled night, the Saturday fore- cast was showing a heavy cloud base and showers moving in from the west during the latter part of the day so, once the cool morning chill had given way to a more acceptable temperature and breaks in clouds saw the sun peeping through with a nice bit of blue, Darren and the weather team agreed to liberate the pigeons at 9.30 into a light west wind turning north west en route. Congratulations has to go to all the members that actually managed to get their birds fit and ready for this race as there were without a doubt many obstacles thrown at pigeon fanciers this year, with the young bird season proving to be a particu- larly challenging one for many! Congratulations also has to go to the prize winners with David Hicks hitting home in Section one with 1st and 13th Open and taking a firm hold on both breeder and buyer winnings. A super result getting two out of the three pigeons he sent in the prize- winning bracket and also to Roger Hallsworth in Section two for also smashing it out of the ballpark with 7th and 36th Open nailing the first and eighth breeder and buyer winners’ takings. A great result for both flyers. I would like to say thank you to both gentlemen for taking the time to send in their winning birds’ details and accompa- nying pictures for this report. flown on the Darkness system. They are exercised twice daily and have approxi- mately twenty training tosses before racing. Then just once a week between races. They are fed a mixture of All Rounder and Gerry Plus, plus grit daily. Apple cider vinegar is given in drinking water twice weekly. This regime seems to work well for me. Thank you, gentlemen. Without doubt, the Futurity race has raised a lot more interest in it’s second year and the prize pot is defi- Roger Hallsworth with his 1st Section Futurity pigeon.

nitely something not to be ignored. Hopefully next time there will be another increase in ring sales and breeders putting their birds up for auction so it can continue to grow. The NRCC’s day of champions will take place on Saturday 25th November at Springfield’s, Spalding.
