the best birthday’s she has ever had. At that time our daughter Michelle and husband Gary were over from Australia which made it extra special. On 13th September our good friends Raymond Mifsud and Mario Faruggia arrived from Malta to stay as they wanted to be here for the LNRC Young Bird race from Hexham on the 16th. At last things have quietened down a bit and I am able to put pen to paper. So much has gone on during the summer that I’ve decided to write things in date order so that I don’t forget anything. On 13th August we had a garden party for Pat’s 79th birthday and as it was her brother John’s 89th birthday on that very day we had a double celebration. Pat said it was one of

booked for 3.30am Tuesday morning to take us to Stansted for our flight to Spain for a two weeks holiday. For a change the weather was excellent with very hot sunshine every day, normally we are called the ‘Rainmakers’ as you can be sure every time we are there we have some rain. Most who know Alby Stockwell will know that he is a great lover of fish not only catching it but also eating it so we went to a lovely restaurant overlooking the

and the birds to the Barking Marking Station so they could meet up with other fanciers which they enjoyed. Unfortunately due to the weather the race was held over and the birds brought back to Retford to be liberated Sunday. As there was no racing on Saturday Georgie Chalkley and Keith Davison called round to have a chat with Raymond and Mario about the pigeons. I’m pleased to say of my 11 entries I was 1st & 3rd Club. Monday 18th September I dropped Raymond and Mario off at Stansted Airport for their flight back to Malta and it was great to see them again. That same Monday evening my brother Roy and wife Dolly and Alby & Sue Stockwell arrived to stay overnight as we had a minibus

Marina in Denia Harbour. One of many lovely nights in such great company. Sunday 22nd October which incidentally was our son Jim’s 57th birthday we had our good friends Terry & Linda Smith of Bishops Stortford over for lunch as I wanted to thank Terry for helping our daughter Yvonne look after the birds and dogs while we were away in Spain. It was very much appreciated. Tuesday 24th October I had a visit from a film crew making a documentary about the public perception of racing pigeons in London and New York for an American TV Company. We spent over four hours in the garden at the lofts filming and being interviewed on all the aspects of racing pigeons. Although the weather was bright it was also very cold and the things I do for the pigeon sport I don’t mind as after 70 years I still love it. I hope it goes well for Jed Allen & Steve and we are able to see the finished film in the summer of 2024. On a final note gentlemen I was very saddened to hear that Vic Shaw of Harlow had passed away after a short illness at the age of 82. Vic was a very good pigeon fancier and a true gentleman of the sport. My sincere condolences to his family at this sad time. That’s all for this week. Woodo!
