club. Well, the perfect opportunity to get some more info for this write up. They clocked the three pigeons all within three seconds. The first bird on the result was a Leo Heremans bird bred for them by Graham Collins. The second pigeon on exactly the same time, was one out of pigeons that were from John McGee’s orig- inal Janssen pigeons. The third pigeon clocked by them was actually the nest mate to the second pigeon, so what a pair of parents they must have there. This is the first year that these four have been a partnership and they all have their own responsibilities to perform. Around the clubs. Back up at Horsham the 3rd position was taken by Steve Vizor. In the Reigate Coly, Chris Kavanagh was 2nd and then the next two positions were won Neil Steptoe, so both lofts that I have been fortunate to be able to talk to this year. Fourth in the Brighton & District after the Sallis and all the others partnership was Clive Middleton with one of his Dave Atkins Janssen based family. Andy Richardson was also 3rd in the Lewes club and then in 4th we had S Elvin. Finally in the Shoreham club the winner was our BBC National winning loft of Chris Neve & Daughter, of course ably assisted by their good friend Tony Dumbrell. The next positions in the Shoreham were won by Karen Browne and Alan Wickenden. The following week the Fed moved on to Newton Abbot for what we could describe as a race of two lofts, with one good interloper that is. The winner was to the loft of Darren and Sarah May flying with the East Hants and West Sussex club, they won the Federation with a chequer cock bird with a speed of 1284ypm. I do not have any details on any of Darren’s birds, that would be like getting blood out of a

The start of September saw the South Coast Fed down at Blandford and the convoy was liberated at 9.30am into a light north east wind, possibly one of the fairest winds for all members of the Fed. It proved to be a steady race for all and the eventual winner was a chequer pied cock bird making 1109ypm to the Brighton Central loft of Barry Aldridge. I do not have any more info on Barry or his winning pigeon but I have heard that he works hard and this makes him racing pigeons a bit difficult so I think the result is a credit to him and his persistence. Second in the race was the Brighton loft of T & J Gunn. Third & 4th in the Fed was the Horsham loft of Richard Brunger and Ricky Warner, a loft that has shown an incredible

Middleton with a chequer cock bird out of his Atkins Janssen pigeons. The next three posi- tions in the club were taken by that firm of solic- itors, Sallis, Rushman, McGee and Cipriani. This team did not jump straight in with their young bird racing team but now they have them on the road they are a force to be reckoned with. Shoreham South Road was won by Karen Browne and Alan Wickenden, these are a nice couple and Bernie and I had the pleasure of their company for a few hours. National winning loft, Chris Neve & Daughter were 2nd Club and 3rd were Lance & Graham Gunn. Finally, the last club that I have details on is that of the Lewes South Road Flying Club. Andy Richardson was the winner again in this club with a blue cock making 1101ypm, 2nd was S Elvin and finally third D & I Sanders. We are quickly heading for the end of the season here. The next thing for us all to look forward to is the Gala Presentation Evening, a joint venture with the Premier 100 Club and the North Thames & Eastern Counties Flying Club. This promises to be one of the best events here on the South Coast held at the Hilton Brighton Metropole Hotel on the Brighton seafront.

stone. We are just lucky that we all know the pigeons that he flies and the performances they put up for him, and many other lofts around the country. The second pigeon in the Fed was that interloper, but it was to one of the top lofts in the Fed that I have written about previously. It was the partnership of Newton and Brennan flying in the Brighton Central Flying Club with a blue hen that spoiled the party. This season alone these two have won the Fed and had the same pigeon top the combine, so what they achieve can never be underestimated. We now go back to the two lofts that then dominated the top ten of the result. Winning 3rd, 6th, 8th and 9th was the loft of Chris Kavanagh with his basically home bred family that is seeing him and Denise maintain a presence at the top each week. I still do not have any names for the family of pigeons that they had from Lier Market but you never know, one day. That just leaves positions 4th, 5th, 7th and 10th to report on and they were to Darren May’s loft again. Around the other clubs. The Horsham club was won by Richard Brunger and Ricky Warner with a velocity of 1154ypm, they were also 2nd Club. Brighton & District was won by Clive

Andy Richardson with 1st.

consistency this season. Their first pigeon home was blue chequer hen that Ricky tells me was bred from the NFC Section that he had when flying with his grandad and this hen was then paired to a Jan Hooyman cock bird. The second bird to the loft another Hooyman pigeon that was bred from ‘61’ a really good racer for them and proving itself in the breeding loft. Fifth Fed was the loft of Chris Kavanagh who was mentioned in the last write up, flying pigeons that, with no particular pedigree, are related to the old family and a great line of pigeons that they had obtained over a couple of years from one particular fancier in Lier Market. The next two pigeons on the result were clocked at the Lewes loft of Andy Richardson, sometimes this loft is referred to as Swingbridge Lofts. The first bird that he clocked out of two that arrived together, was a blue cock bird sitting on three eggs at the time, that was bred out of a pair of Fed winners for him. This cock bird has also won a 2nd and 3rd Club this year. His second bird over the pad, a whole three seconds later was another blue cock bird that had been sent racing back to chipping eggs. Just a little extra note on Andy’s performances this year, a couple of weeks ago he took 3rd Open in the British Barcelona Club’s any age Guernsey race. Just the other day I had popped into Screwfix to try and find a replacement tap for a little job I was working on locally. As I am in there and waiting to pay I looked to my right and thought, I know that face, so of course I said, “don’t I know you” and the reply was yes and that he was thinking the same about me. It turns out that I was speaking to Danny Sallis, and just to cement the thought, in walked one of his part- ners in the pigeon crime, John McGee. Now what a coincidence this was because the 8th, 9th and 10th positions in the Federation were taken by the partnership of Sallis, Rushman, McGee and Cipriani of the Brighton Central
