word. The book of Ephesians was be ing presented and the Holy Spirit made it very plain to her what her position in Christ was and how very far her walk seemed to be below her standing. She had lost a daughter some years before and she was very rebellious and finally became so bitter th a t she almost gave up her Christian life altogether. It worked upon her mind so much th a t she was sent to the Sanitarium and when she came home she began going to pic ture shows in order to take her mind off of her trouble. She went every day and sometimes at night as well, but now, through the Word, the Holy Spirit be gan to deal with her. She became very much interested until she was attending three Bible classes a week and then would try to explain to her husband the new tru th s th a t had come to her. She was asked the other day to go to a pic ture show and she said somehow the de sire had left her and the picture show had no more attraction for her for she had found something so much better, even the Lord Jesus Christ. She is now rejoicing in Him. Presenting Christ Along the Way A Bible class member met a woman in one of the city parks and invited her to a class. She had been alone in the city and was grateful for the invitation. Several visits to the class convinced her th a t the Spiritism in which she had been interested was not according to the Bi ble. The teacher had several conversa tions with her, but the time did not seem ripe to urge an intelligent acceptance of the Lord. But one day after the many interviewers had left, this lonely little soul was found waiting patiently for a talk. After the simple plan of the Gos pel was personally presented, she said, “Why, yes, I accept Jesus Christ as my Savior! ” Then she was shown how John 3:36 told her that she had ever lasting life. This delighted her heart, and we followed by asking her how long she would have this everlasting life. “Oh, as long as I do right.” The work er’s heart sank a t this for it showed that she had not grasped the thought of God’s free grace apart from works. The whole Gospel plan was reviewed. The teacher asked her if she would tru st the word of a friend who promised to meet her a t a given time and place. Receiv ing an affirmative reply we said, “Why would you believe the friend?” “Be cause she is a woman of her word." “Very well, can you tru st Christ’s word as He tells us we have everlasting life

because we have believed on Him?” It was surprising how many times we had to reiterate this very thought. Several times the replies would show the same old trusting in good works. Finally we said, “If you earn your salvation by good works, then th a t will mean th a t some day you will deserve salvation. When could you look in the dear Lord’s eyes and say, T have deserved heaven?’ ” This thought was very repulsive to her. Finally the tru th dawned upon her. “Do you mean I am to say th a t I have everlasting life and will have it always through Christ?” She was told that w a s. precisely what was meant. Her face broke out in smiles as she said over and over, “Oh, isn’t th a t lovely! I must write my husband a t once and tell him too!” Result of a Neighborhood Class A little woman whose native land was far-off Germany; became a member of a certain neighborhood Bible class. Inter est in the Word grew into delight, and she seldom missed a session of the class. But her heart was burdened, because, in her home was a wayward daughter, the eldest of her little flock. One day she brought the glad news that not only this dear girl, but all her children, had re ceived the Lord Jesus. Then came an hour of sudden illness, an “emergency case” at the hospital, a hasty surgical operation, and all was over. The heart broken husband must return to his motherless children alone, hut as he re membered that his wife’s hope and joy had their source in the study of God’s Word, he sent a message to the class that he would seek his own hope and comfort where she had found hers. The constant stream of men passing Biola Hall make it an ideal place to fish for souls. Many are brought to the Lord in the course of a month and it is very interesting to see how God deals with men, often in a way mysterious and strange, a t least so it seems to the re cipients of these providences, in order to bring them to Himself. Often He uses trouble and sorrow, which is hard indeed to understand at the time, to prepare hearts' for conver sion. God’s Word An Arrow One Saturday night a young man stepped up to one of the workers who had ju st' finished speaking in the en- BIOLA HALL David Cant, Snpt.
