THE PATH TO SUCCESS IS PAVED WITH EDUCATION

How Learning Affects My Family, My Career, and Me professor now, he’s still a teacher and a mentor to me. After every conversation with him, I come away learning

I believe teachers make all the difference in a child’s life. They provide valuable moments for kids to develop a passion for learning as well as an excitement for life. A good teacher almost serves as an extension of your parenting. They inspire our kids to be better and find their interests. I was talking to my son, Isaac, the other day, and for a young man going into the ninth grade, he has incredible insight on the topic. He went into detail explaining why he loved his eighth-grade science teacher. It wasn’t that he was funny or that he was best friends with the students. Instead, Isaac told me he always found a way to make the subject interesting. His class was studying biology during one rubric, and to better relate the topic to his students, the teacher brought in a live peregrine falcon. If his

something new or gaining an entirely new perspective. But he’s such a great teacher because he never stops learning. He’s always taking on something new to teach himself and acquire a new skill set. He wants to write his memoirs, so now, in his late 70s, he started taking a creative writing class to understand the mechanics of language better. One of the three core values that drive our brokerage forward is education. Everything we do here at Realty ONE Group Professionals revolves around educating

our agents, our clients, and ourselves. We’re always trying to host new continuing education classes, mastermind groups, or an event that adds value to our community. We recently held an event with agents and entrepreneurs from all over the area to expand the knowledge about government financing. It was amazing to see how everyone shared information. We see education having the most significant impact with our new agents. We have a program specifically designed to help set new agents up for success: One Launch. The data about the new agents who come out of real estate school and quickly wash out of the industry is staggering. This series of courses takes new agents far beyond the basics that are taught in real estate school and empowers them to achieve the success they desire. But we don’t stop there. We have a mentoring program and ONE University for existing agents looking to expand their minds and provide better service to our clients. Learning is the spine of success. I’m very proud to have my children, my career, and my personal life embody such wonderful examples of education. Back to school doesn’t have to be the only moment we commit to learning. Rather than going back to school, I recommend going back to learning, and fill your minds with as much meaningful information as you can.

teacher thought the content of the class would be better absorbed by being outside, he packed up the students and took his teaching outside. But what really drove it home for Isaac was the fact that he got up in front of the class and spoke to the students individually. He wasn’t behind his computer teaching from a PowerPoint. He was looking at each student as he related the subject to them. Education in my life goes beyond just school. My father-in-law has this insatiable love of teaching that truly inspires me. Become a ‘Dog Whisperer’

Train as a Pack for Better Results

Your whole family adores your dog — but not the barking. This issue can lead to feelings of frustration, and the more frustrated you get, the more your dog barks. It’s their only way of communicating, and they’re telling you, “My needs are not being met.” As Cesar Millan, the original “dog whisperer,” explains, “A barking dog needs exercise, discipline, and affection, in that order.” energy. According to the humane society, “A tired dog is a good dog and one who is less likely to bark from boredom or frustration.” If you already take your pup on a morning walk, try adding in an evening walk. You could add it to your child’s chore list and help get out some of the kid’s pent-up energy, too. It may also be beneficial to practice obedience exercises and games that challenge your dog. DISCIPLINE To put a stop to the behavior, you’ll first need to change any of your behavior that’s reinforcing it. Any EXERCISE Part of the barking issue may be due to pent-up

attention your dog gets when he’s barking — even yelling, “Rover, stop!” — teaches him to keep going, because you’re rewarding him with attention. Wait until your dog has stopped barking to give him any sort of attention, including looking at them. “To be successful with this method, you must wait as long as it takes for him to stop barking,” advises the Humane Society.

AFFECTION Of course, your dog needs love and attention to thrive — a lack of it could contribute to barking behavior. Reinforce silence by giving your dog a treat and an encouraging pat when

she demonstrates good behavior, like not barking. “Our pups want to work for our attention,” Cesar Millan reminds us. “Allowing her to do that and to see your happiness is, to your dog, the biggest reward of all.” To make your training program successful, consistency is key. Enlist the help of the whole family to stick to the principles. Together, you can foster a calm, peaceful home where you and your dog happily coexist.

3 Transactions and Several Referrals Later, We Swear by Joel

Buying a home is supposed to be a complicated process, but thanks to the professionalism of Joel and his team at Realty ONE Group Professionals, our experience was about as painless as one could hope. Having worked with Joel on two previous transactions, we knew we’d be getting high-quality service and immaculate attention to detail, but sometimes the closer you get to people, the more you worry about them letting off the gas a little. I’ve known Joel for 10 years, and I can honestly say his processes and communication have never ceased to provide unparalleled service. After weighing all our options against our homeownership goals, we decided the best path to take was to build a new house. New construction is an entirely different process than buying an already existing home. There are a lot of details you wouldn’t usually think about. What direction do you want your house to face? What trim pieces do you want on the interior? How big of a patio do you want? The freedom to choose was wonderful, but it left the door open for a lot of decisions we didn’t know how to approach. Luckily, Joel was a fantastic resource for us. Any answers he couldn’t provide (which were very few), he had a mental Rolodex of contacts he could put us in touch with to help solve our problems.

I think the best barometer of someone in the sales industry is whether or not you’d recommend them to someone close to you. Without a doubt, I would recommend Joel and his team to friends, family, and anyone I know. Real estate can provide a lot of different options, and not every one of them has a client-centered focus. Joel is a man of high integrity and is always very proactive in how he approaches every step of the process. I hope everyone has the chance to work with him and receive the care my family and I have.

Don’t Let the Hot Market Keep You From Buying a Home 3 Tips You Need to Know Before Buying

Swing Putter GolfCart DrivingRange Thank You for your support

The temperature of the housing market in the Treasure Valley is as hot as it’s ever been right now. That’s great news for some and a significant hurdle for others. While prices are going up for sellers, low inventory and high demand have created a challenging situation for active home seekers. The obstacles presented by this competitive market have left many new buyers wondering if their first home or dream home will ever become a reality. But just because the home prices are competitive doesn’t mean there’s not a house out there for you — it just means you’re going to have to be ready when you do find it. Here are three tips to help you prepare to buy a home in this hot market. GET YOUR FINANCING READY Home buyers used to be able to get away with seeing houses without speaking with a lender. That reality has long since passed. Listings are seeing a lot of cash offers and home seekers who are already pre-approved. In a competitive market like this, if you find your dream house, you need to be ready to submit an offer, and that can only come if your financing is prepared. BE SPECIFICALLY OPEN-MINDED This may sound odd and perhaps contradictory. To be successful, it’s important to think through and discuss the must-have items in your new home. However, the more things you can be flexible about, the more options you have. For instance, you may have a firm budget, but if you can be flexible on location, your agent might be able to help you get a lot more home for your money. MAKE A COMPETITIVE OFFER Listings aren’t presenting second chances anymore. When a home comes on the market, you usually have one opportunity to put in the right offer. Most listings are going to the highest and best offer right now, so if you want your dream home, your offer needs to be just that. The best way to be successful is to listen to your agent and follow their advice. Offering the right price is only one factor of many that a great agent can advise you on. When it comes down to accepting an offer, there are many things that may help the seller choose you! While navigating tricky waters like these, it’s essential to have a trusted resource at the helm. A professional agent makes all the difference when selling or buying a home. Our team at Realty ONE Group Professionals is here to help you with all of your needs. 3 208-375-3750

The Worst Poet Ever Known

William Topaz McGonagall The Worst Poet Ever Known

a man of humor and took it very seriously. It solidified his need to write poetry for the next 25 years.

Although it is not as well-known as the major holidays throughout the year, on August 18, Bad Poetry Day catches the attention of literature enthusiasts throughout the nation. There have been multitudes of great poets throughout history who have gained admiration for their work. However, for every great poet, there many more poor poets. William Topaz McGonagall happens to be one of the latter and is considered to be the worst in history. McGonagall was born in Edinburgh and began writing poetry in 1877 after a voice told him to “Write! Write!” The first poem he wrote was in regard to a Reverend George Gilfillan, which he sent to the weekly news to publish with only his initials. The editor did in fact publish the poem, though with an added note, which McGonagall quotes in his autobiography — “W. McG., Dundee, has sent us a poem in praise of the Rev. George Gilfillan, and he sung his praises truly and well, but he modestly seeks to hide his light under a bushel.” The comment was meant to have a humorous tone, but McGonagall was not

His most known poem is called “The Tay Bridge Disaster.” Some lines include vivid imagery such as, “and the rain came pouring down / and the dark clouds seem to frown / and the Demon of the air seem’d to say — / ‘I’ll blow down the Bridge of Tay.’” McGonagall published over 200 poems in his life, each written with the same simple rhyme scheme, disregard for meter, and rudimentary diction.

McGonagall strived for fame as a poet, but what he received in response to his poems was mockery. His complete works

along with his autobiography continue to sell today. Though he is known as the worst poet in history, people continue to enjoy his verse, one way or another.
