Jehovah's Witnesses in the School T h e J u n e 15, 1964, is s u e o p The Watchtower, official semi-month ly publication o f Jehovah’s Witness es, ran a disturbing article entitled “Youths, Keep your Integrity while at School.” After quoting Exodus 20:4, 5, the Second Commandment, the anonymous author defines the Witnesses’ conception of idolatry as related to the conduct of boys and girls in school. A few excerpts will serve to reveal the hostile, disloyal, unscriptural posture which this ag gressive cult is forcing upon their own innocent children, a lr e a d y shamefully deprived of the Gospel of a loving Saviour, and cruelly brain washed into acceptance of a mythical “new world” created in the Jeho vah’s Witnesses’ image. May we pray for them faithfully. As to flag salutes: “What is a flag? It is an image made by man; it is a representation of the State. Flags often c o n ta in representation of things in the heavens, such as stars, as well as things on earth. So . . . saluting a flag would be a violation o f the Second Commandment . . . Any kind of salute to an image with the hand or body is an idola trous act . . . But what if you are not asked to salute the flag but merely hold it, either in a parade or in the classroom, so that others can salute? Well, would that be ‘fleeing from idolatry’ ? No . . . it would idolatrous ceremony. The same is idolatrous ceremony. The same is true of marching in patriotic pa rades, which is expected of students in many lands . . . But suppose one were required to assume some rigid bodily posture at the time of flag sa luting? Doing so would make one a participant in the idolatrous cere mony . . . Suppose one student in a school is chosen to represent the whole school and the student salutes the flag outside at a flagpole; inside, the other students merely stand while their representative salutes the flag . . . What does the standing in this case signify? It signifies that you agree to having the student on the outside salute the flag for you.

In many areas, children must go to school barefoot even in the winter time. (It snows in Greece, too!) AMG supports children in 8 orphanages and other institutions of Greece, as well as in many destitute homes. As we tell these children of the love of God in sending Jesus Christ to be their Saviour, let us show that love by providing a sturdy, warm pair of leather shoes for their cold feet, and meeting their other urgent needs. Send $5 for each child you want to help to
