13. 1928 Yuengling’s Ice Cream #26 Lou Gehrig (HOF) - PSA NM 7

One of several similar black and white card issues asso- ciated with the E210 York Caramel set that was issued in 1928 and sponsored by various ice cream companies, the Yuengling’s set was a particularly scarce variety until a recent find of several years ago. The Yuengling’s cards, produced by Yuengling’s Ice Cream Co. of Pottsville, PA (the same Yuengling’s that brews Yuengling Beer today) was a numbered set with two back variations - one of- fering a free gallon of ice cream as a redemption for a complete set of cards, and the other featuring the addi- tional offer of a $5.00 “skooter” for the redemption of a Babe Ruth card. Despite the recent find, fewer than 1,500 examples from the set have been graded, with only 69 Gehrigs, making this one of the more difficult Gehrig cards issued during his prime. This is a stun- ning example, graded NM 7 by PSA, with sharp cor- ners and a bold image. The portrait of Gehrig is cen- tered just to the left, resulting in the slight reduction in technical grade. One of the finest examples known, Just 7 examples have graded higher than this, between PSA and SGC. A wonderful card which seldom makes itself available via public auction.
