God has promised to exalt those who are humble. This is what happened to David. (Lift the cipher above the hand with thumb toward the audience.) The “ U” is now gold, speaking of glory. David was exalted to a place of glory because he was humbled in the presence of God. If you are saved and willing to be humble for Christ, you will be exalted in due time. A rich man said to his minister, “Why is it everybody is always criticizing me for being miserly, when every one knows I have made provisions to leave every thing I possess to charity when I die!” “Well,” said the minister, “ Let me tell you about the pig and the cow. The pig was lamenting to the cow one day about how unpopular he was. ‘People are al ways talking about your gentleness and your kind eyes,’ said the pig. ‘True, you give milk and cream, but I give even more. I give bacon and ham — I give bristles and they even pickle my feet! Still nobody likes me. I am just a pig. Why is this?’ “ The cow thought a minute, and then said, ‘Well, maybe it’s because I give while I am still living.’ ” —Selected The less some folks know the more they want to tell it. to pray. The church building was just four walls and an iron roof, without ceiling. A fter the people had been praying for twenty minutes, they heard a noise o f something dropping on the roof. Five minutes later, prayer had to stop and be re placed by cries o f rejoicing, for the rain was coming down in torrents. It continued for four days! And what did the idol-worshiping people think? Many o f them said, “We prayed day and night for a week, and there was no rain. The Mohammedans prayed fo r a week, and there was no rain, but the Christians prayed to Isejumedogbon twenty minutes and got all the rain they needed. There is only one God, and He is the Christians' Saviour.” What a testimony! Heathen men and women had come to see that there is only one God and He the living Saviour o f the‘ Christians! Let us so live that the world will say there is only one Saviour—your Sav iour and mine! T H E K I N G ' S B U S I N E S S BIG HATS (Continued from Page 16)

“ S” is getting larger, and at the same time the triangle which surrounds it is growing too. Some foolish people think that as they grow up they do not need God to surround their lives as He did in childhood. Samuel was wise in that he allowed the Lord to surround his whole life. When he was an old man, we are told, “And his return was to Ramah; for there was his house; and there he judged Israel; and there he built an altar unto the Lord” (1 Sam. 7:17). Boys and girls who are wise will have their lives surrounded by the Lord from childhood to old age, even as did Samuel. Object: A capital “ U.” (Make 2 “U’s” of cardboard, about four inches across and six inches high. Put the points together, making a large cipher. Join them together with a piece of white paper which completely covers both. Fold the white sides together, giving the appearance of a “U.” Color one side of the “U” black and the other side gold.) July 30. 1950 You C an T oo Lesson: What is the matter with this “ U ” ? “ It is black, suggesting sin.” Yes, it is a sin to be proud. The sin ner always wants to exalt himself. This is the reason Christ said, “ For who soever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted” (Luke 14:11). In 1 Peter 5:6, we read, “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.” This black “ U” reminds me of a proud people who are trying to exalt themselves. (Hold the “U” in the right hand with the Angers toward the audience.) If the sinner is ever to please God, he must be cleansed and humbled under the hand of God. We see what happens when a proud sinner accepts Christ as his Saviour. (Drop the “ U” beneath the hand, allowing it to become a white cipher.) It is changed from a •black “U” to a white cipher, as the sinner admits that he is nothing. This humble cipher reminds me of King David. In 2 Sam. 7:18 we read, “ Then went King David in, and sat before the Lord, and he said, Who am I, O Lord God? and what is my house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?” David was humble in the presence of God.
