Marcy Gross Glick, Sheldon Gross, Inc. “Social media provides us opportunities to consistently emphasize & reinforce keymessaging” T everyone on our sales team and office staff know how valued they are, and I think that’s an important key to success.

What words of advice would you give to a young woman about to go into the field of commercial real estate? If I’ve learned anything from three decades in real estate, it’s that networking is absolutely essential. I regularly push myself outside my personal comfort zone to connect with people – and I stress to our sales team that they should never say “no” to meeting with someone. You never knowwhat doors may open when you reach out to people. I think that’s the single most important lesson I can impart. MAREJ

ell us how and when you began your ca- reer: One year after graduating from college, I got started by leasing and selling commer- cial real estate. That was my introduction to the field, and over time, I shifted my focus to property management. Who or what has been the strongest influence on your career? My father founded the com- pany that I now head, and I worked under him for 30 years. So, there’s no doubt he was my strongest professional influ- ence. He taught me to always be honest, to do everything with the utmost integrity, to listen carefully, and to respond to people in a timely manner. He also told me that if I wanted something, I should speak up and ask for it. What impact has social media had on your busi- ness? Social media has had a sig- nificant impact on our overall business, particularly during the past several years. Quite a few people contact us spe- cifically because of something they saw in one of our posts. In addition, social media provides us opportunities to consistently emphasize and reinforce key messaging. What unique qualities do you believe makes you most successful in your profession? If I have a best quality, it’s probably being available for people – basically, listening to their concerns and show- ing that I care. When a client has a question that I can’t immediately answer, I’ll still connect with them as quickly as possible. If nothing else, I want to demonstrate that I’m accessible and always working on their behalf. I’ve managed properties for more than 25 years now, and have never been removed from a project – and that’s not simply good luck. Tell us about a key mo- ment for you, as a profes- sional: It was actually a rather small thing. A friend of mine who I’d known since we were kids together at sleep-away camp called me about managing a property. This really reinforced for me that your next business opportunity can come from pretty much anywhere, or anyone. With this in mind, I touch base with my old and

Do you feel being a wom- an is an advantage, disad- vantage or no advantage in today’s business world? Why? Why not? At this stage of my real estate career, in 2021, I don’t believe being a woman provides me a particular advantage or disadvantage. And I’m very happy to be able to say that. No matter who I may be competing against for a particular project, whatever their gender, I feel I’m on equal footing.

the role of president in our company. Now, there’s never a dull moment. Ever. I’d been involved in management for years, but as president I need to know absolutely everything that’s going on – internally and externally. I always try to let
